Are you doing any steering wheel controls currently in your setup?

How is your USB DAC wired from the line out, are you doing Aux to your HU or RCA lines to another input type on the HU?

Which OTG cable are you using and where did you order it (I've read mixed reviews on the various forums)? You mention no USB hub setup yet, is this a limitation of ElementalX kernel or just something you've yet to do?

I may need to go your route as you said, keep the HU radio purely as backup--I do listen to some talk radio shows on FM and SXM however SXM has an app and LTE-enabled Nexus 7 would work well for doing streaming 99% of the time (I have a large data plan and would just get another SIM to share in tab directly). Steering wheel controls would only work with tablet.

Overall the benefit, customizability and slickness of an Android tablet setup outweighs the minor drawbacks.

Thanks for all your input on this!
nope. no steering wheel controls for me. they would be nice, but not a big deal. i'll take a picture of how my tablet set up looks if you're interested.

so tablet splits to dac and power. from dac it goes to the aux of the hu. i see no reason you couldn't do rca if your hu supports it though.

i can't remember. maybe one i grabbed from amazon? but it's just a cable so i don't see a big deal with getting a generic one. or you can even make your own if you feel up to the challenge. the rom i'm using doesn't seem to have a problem supporting hubs, but yes it is a limitation of the current kernel as it is. i've tried a LOT of combinations of kernels and roms, but as of now not a single one provides the exact set up that is possible using the 2012 nexus 7 with timurs rom/kernel. at least for now. the dev for the elementalx seems to be working on it all the time so i think it's only a matter of time before it's exactly what i'm looking for.

and i agree. having the android tablet far outweighs some of the limitations i've come across.

Awesome, thanks again for the info, just one more question I think, which USB DAC are you using?

Doing a little more research on the HU and tablet control, it looks like the same Joycon guy has a module that allows you to control both simultaneously (configuring either a toggle button to control, or long press/short press to pass through commands to each endpoint).

The english is horrible but from what I can determine, its fully programmable so may be a way of solving my scenario:

very interesting indeed. i don't think there is a way for this to work for our car, but if you can do it then more power to you! let me know how that goes.

the dac i'm using is this one:
[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Beach-Advantage-Digital-Adapter/dp/B0036VO4X4/ref=sr_1_11?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1389301826&s r=1-11&keywords=usb+dac"]Amazon.com: Turtle Beach Audio Advantage Micro II USB Analog & Digital Audio Adapter: Electronics[/ame]

however, from what i understand, i think almost any dac would work. i would even may test a cheapo one from ebay since they all seem to be based on the same chipsets anyway. but i already have this so oh well!

Any chance that spot will support a HU thats another inch and a half or is it pretty snug? The one you've got is just under 4 inches, the one that I want is about 6 1/2.

This one is snug. The unit itself is ok, but once you connect the BT mic, sub, harness, and antenna that extra bit of room is gone.

Reviving the thread. Well I have a 2006 STI and would love to put my old 1st Gen Nexus 7 to good use as the latest OS for the tablet renders it unusable. I have a couple of questions.

1. My current system already has a 6 channel RCA connector and would love to use a app with equalizer to control F,R,SW individually for best results. What DAC's do you know of can support 6 channel systems like this?

2. I would also like the OBD check functionality as its great for quick glance at ECU logs and it looks great.

3. Is there a way to connect a sirius XM antenna to the system? My current ken-wood radio I have wired up for sirius XM as its useful when I head up in the mountains and don't have signal.

Here is my thread of my build.
