Pretty cool build, anyone who cares this much about Chapman's philosophy gets my respect.

Get rid of as much as I can without getting it to the point where I can bring it back to stock if I need to.

Cool. I'll take it that making it presentable isn't even on the table?

Nice work!

Nice work man. You already have most of the auto-x philosophy down. Super light, and just enough power to push it around the turn nicely. One thing you might need to consider is the DB restrictions for most clubs. A silencer will solve that at minimal weight if it is an issue. All of the clubs that I have ever encountered have a novice division that you will be place in btw. You will definitely be competitive ... and that will be addictive.

There are a few things that you will probably want to consider if you are serious about making that thing fly around turns that go a little against your philosophy.

Stitch or Seam welding the chassis.

Chassis bracing bars, especially with the rear seat removed the chassis is going to flex more.

I would also definitely take out that sound deadening. Here is a video on how to do that correctly.

You might also consider removing all of the wiring for the dome light, trunk light, HVAC, stereo etc. You would be amazed at how much wires can weight ... plus you get to use more zip ties

I did all this once. Dry ice and all. Even made an aluminum dash for more gauges. And I will never do it again for a daily driver.

I think the sound deadening weighs so little that unless it comes out incredibly easy, you should just leave it.

Thanks! All the Tomei exhausts come with silencers. I don't think NOLA Motorsports Park has a DB limit though. It's out in the middle of nowhere within an industrial area. I've done a good bit of track days there on my sport bike and there have been some crazy-loud bikes there and no one even brought it up.

As for the chassis bracing, I know how beneficial it can be. I'll probably do that after I've gotten it as light as I can. I know the benefits of the stiffness will far outweigh the negative side effects of the additional weight. So I'll be holding off on bracing and aero parts until the end.

Thanks for the video too. I was going to look that up eventually, but now I can just watch that one first. I'm still not even done gutting it, but I'm definitely on the down hill with that.

It surprisingly weighs more then you might think. When I did it on my 83 celica the carpet was 18-22lb and the noise tar was about 30lb.

Holy shit. It can't weigh that much in our cars though. There's just not that much of it. I hope that's how much it weighs though.

I actually hope there IS around 30lbs of it there. Between that and my window glass removal, I would almost negate roll cage weight.
