You should've hidden meatspin in your link. That would've Really gotten a "rise" out of some people here.

None of my other cars have any aids beyond abs and its disabled or broken on them. Most old abs systems suck. I will fix it on the m3 though since its a dd.

I think the OP did state that he wants the aids on the street.... Nothing wrong with disabling them at th track IMO. I've never disabled the BRZ aids (on the street - on the track they were always off) and doubt I will in the future since its not a track car for me now.

I think this thread would have gone a lot better with a different tone. It kinda feels like all the intelligent people are just angrily agreeing with each other haha.

The rest of the people... I just ignore.

For myself, I'll leave the aids on. No matter how awesome I am, it's too easy to lock up the wheels when braking in an emergency in low traction situations. And no matter how awesome I am, I can never brake wheels individually to keep myself from losing control if I happen to exceed the limits. The simple truth is that the aids can do things that are impossible for me to do, no matter how good I am.

@diss7 The only irritating thing in this thread is that you didn't bother to post a pic of where the ABS fuse is located within the fuse box so we (I) know which one to pull without having to search.

Also, can you verify for a fact which systems are disabled when the ABS switch is pulled?

Overall I'm glad that most of the idiots on the road have nannies on their cars these days.

Even more glad that we still have the *choice* to switch everything off at our own discretion or, more idealistically, when the driving conditions and other drivers can be trusted (namely on the track or relatively well known, non-trafficked or isolated areas).

When the day does come that all cars have mandatory and undefeatable driver aids I'm buying a classic car and a tinfoil hat.

I'm surprised by that too! The first thing I do on any car that has traction control is turn it off. And while IMO ABS is 'ok', i sure could care less if a vehicle had it. Maybe it's because my 'other' car is a nose heavy 440 cu.in 4 speed Dodge Challenger, but I think driving without all the 'assists' is WAY more fun.
I will admit i like the traction control/abs functions when conditions are very snowy/icy

I agree. That is why I say "If the nannies are pissing you off on the street because they keep interfering with your 'driving style', then you are driving like an asshat"

The challenge is that many people relate this to the severity of removing the rear brake on a bicycle. As long as you are cautious and mindful of your surroundings, you will be fine. But the moment a jerk makes an unpredictable move and causes you to slam on your brakes...

If you don't think that could ever happen to you because you are an exceptional driver, then more power to you and happy motoring.

If you live in a city with a bunch of driving morons, then don't do what this guy did.

Not a fair comparison. The bicycle now has substaintially worse braking. The car doesn't, one could argue its better.

A better comparison would be, the aids are like training wheels on a bicycle. Sure it might be safer, and you don't think you can ever live without them. But once you remove them, it becomes much more enjoyable.
