TF-Works (Touge Factory) FR-S Build Journal... Making it funner

Ordered a FR-S in August, and arrived in October of last year. *They told me at the time Raven Black was the lowest sales numbers. *Black it is.

Hit 500 miles, changed engine oil / trans oil / diff oil...
Off to Gingerman Raceway in bone stock form. It was a cold and rainy day, and the stock Bridgestone tires showed their weakness.

Came back and installed Stance Super Sport coilovers with 6k / 7k setup.
Installed Titanium axle back exhaust - no squirrels gains, but sounds sweet!
Threw on some White Enkei NT03's and painted the tail lights red.

Installed GFB 3 piece aluminum pulley kit:
OEM: *6.3 pounds for all 3 pulleys
GFB: *1.4 pounds for all 3 pulleys
There is a noticeable gain in how quickly it revs up around 3500rpm and up.

Due to wheel options in 5x114, we decided to go with Kics 10mm conversion spacers.

Got the version:Select aero in (TRD rep) - threw that on...
The rear bumper cover requires the factory bumper exhaust outlet hole to be trimmed towards the center by about 1.5" for it to fit.
Got some 19" Vossen Wheels....

Playing around with exhaust ideas...

Then made a custom muffler-less quad tip exhaust.

Decided to go with a Bucket seat... My knees were getting bruised with stock seats trying to support myself.
Bucket seat with rails was about 23 pounds total.

Installed Tomei 2-way limited slip differential and went to first drift day.

Drifting with 19's was a bit of struggle. Counter steer was heavy, and you needed to give the steering wheel a slight boost on quick transitions.

My rear camber was uneven, and the whiteline camber bushings didn't have the range I wanted. Installed Stance adjustable rear control arms, Stance aluminum collars, whiteline trans bushing, whiteline rear diff bushings, perrin shifter bushing *(noticeable difference!)

got some 17x9 +45 SBC RPF1's (remember... I have 10mm conversion spacers making these +35) and wrapped it with RS3's. The wheel and tire combo was a huge improvement. Felt much more responsive and the increase in grip from the stock bridgestones are huge.
We ended up going with the Wilwood BBK as well.
Went to Blackhawk Farms raceway, which is known to consume consumables. Needless to say the hybrid pads it comes with didn't last long. During the 20 minute session, we had to back off after about 3 hard laps. balance of the brakes feel very good.

Went to Drift Day 45...
First time drifting with the 17's. Couldn't figure out why I kept spinning out...
Found out after the event that my 245/40/17 tires up front were rubbing during full lock on the inside of the fender well. It was as if I was applying the front brakes over-rotating the rear end while in full-lock on the steering wheel.
Rears are 17x9 +25... burning up the stock bridgestones.
So note to self... front setup doesn't work for drifting.

Decided to take out our Rocket Bunny S13, to vent my frustration... V8's are fun!

Just a picture I liked from this event...

Went to another track event with mostly Hondas. Western Michigan Honda Meet. Really showed how slow this car is on the two long straights... not able to keep up with gutted Civic EK with stock motor.

I do not care if anything beats our cars. Good God do they look so much better in comparison to anything else you raced. The aesthetic mods you've done might have something to do with it, but still, stock for stock, there isn't a better looking car out there below $100k, IMO.

Soon after...
Added Cusco Carbon Fiber front and rear strut bar, and Cusco Engine power brace, and Cusco battery tie down.

Then came a big upgrade.
Went with STANCE ProComp2 2-way adjustable coilovers.
Swift springs: 8k front / 9k rear
New coating on the inverted monotube dampers... supposed to reduce friction.
New sealed roller bearing spring seats...

Corner balanced the car within 4 pounds cross weight.
Car weighed in at 2788 with 1/3 tank of gas.
Upgraded brake pads to Polymatrix B compound.

Headed for Gingerman to drive at the Ford Festival.
Wheels look black from the brake dust.

Some time this past fall... we decided to have a FR-S / BRZ meet for the locals at the shop.

Just few cars parked outside... TF is usually a meeting spot for many on Fridays.

Returned to Blackhawk Farms with new coilovers and proper brake pads.
This car seriously pulls G's on this small technical course!

The STANCE 2-ways were just perfect. We're going to play with 10k rear springs this year, and Whiteline adjustable front sway bar.

Installed these bad boys on a customer's BRZ before heading out to Blackhawk.
17x9 +40 wrapped in 245/40/17 ZII star specs.
