PDX Dealerships with Japanese parts access?
Just wondering if anyone may have knowledge on any of the dealerships here in the greater Portland area that may have access to ordering japanese parts? I went to Gresham Toyota last week and they couldn't find the part in their database (I had the parts numbers).
But since Carson Toyota in CA can order JDM parts, I'm sure there has to be a way for any other dealership to do the same, especially since we have a seaport where Toyotas vehicles are dropped off and distributed. |

Probably less of a hassle getting warranty coverage if you also service your vehicle at the same dealership.
OP, JDM part numbers are not going to be in the USDM database. Those dealerships that have access to JDM units usually go through some kind of import/export 3rd party. Best bet is to go through Nigel JDM parts, shipping usually doesn't take long, and you have access to all of the OEM offerings just about.

Pricing is an issue. The markup is ridiculous on these (about $4K) http://www.nigel-jdmparts.com/vehicl...lock-brake-kit

Carson Toyota and Nigel JDM parts are quoting around or over $350 for shipping alone, throwing the parts that I want (TRD lip and side skirts) at a little over $1500 total. I think the price would be a bit more fair if I wasn't paying over 300 bucks for shipping.
Also, japanparts is much cheaper in terms of the parts themselves, even what Carson and Nigel are quoting me, but the thing about japanparts is that, the shipping is killer, about $700 for the parts, but like $900 shipping to my door. Shipping to a seaport or airport is cheaper, but I think you need to go through a customs broker of some sort in order to go those 2 routes. |

@indesign I think you are indirectly asking for someone to start a business importing JDM parts in the NW. :-)
Someone here has to know how to do it and maybe even run it. Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk

hah, pretty much. well, if we did a group purchase, the shipping would eventually be negligible. the lip painted is only 374 from japan parts. whereas carson quotes me 548.

JDM parts are, relatively speaking, easy to get. It is the shipping that costs the most these days, as seafreight for anything less than a complete container is prohibitively expensive. That leaves air freight. The actual air freight can be good or bad depending on the weight and the size of the package. But good ol' uncle sam has to have their share too, so there is the entire customs and duties to deal with. If you import yourself, you'll have to pay brokerage fees as well.
Generally, EMS is the cheapest, that is what we use. That's because it is part of the US Postal system and they get some sort of blanket coverage on customs, duties, and other fees. |

Thanks for chiming in Paul. Very useful information. Looks like I'll just have to fork over the $ if I want to play.
