Well no wonder your wife decided to keep the FR-S and sell the Fiat... she's going to be the one driving the FR-S to work everyday. I don't believe her sob story either... sounds like fake crying to conceal her laughter, if you ask me.

The new addition to your family (the baby) will be a real blessing... and the sting of driving the Corolla will be driven away every time that little one looks up at you and smiles....

(And then, when s/he turns 13... all bets are off... have the FR-S on standby for those times you "just need to be out on the road...")

Congrats!!

There was a flood of emotion and then the thought process began. Do we need to move to make more room? Who's going to take care of the baby? Can I still play xbox with a baby sleeping? What do we do with the Walking Dead compendium? And the biggest question: what are we going to do about the car???

The problem with the cars is while I have an awesome car I have always wanted ( I have always loved rwd cars from japan,) my wife has a blue fiat 500 she loves. It was her first love and we have driven that car everywhere. We drove it from tennessee to freakin' Texas and back. So, my first thought is crap, there goes the frs. Sad times.

But, good news, my wife understands cars! She said she knows that she loves her car, but mine is different and in the long run we would miss the frs more.
So, today we traded the blue fiat 500 for a new corolla. My wife cried on the way home and I can totally understand. I will also be crying in about 9 months because we decided that I am going to be a stay-at-home dad. That means she is going to driving the frs to work and I get the corolla.

Sorry for the long post and thanks for reading.
Stay at hone dad...maybe you can eek out a project car, pop the kid in a rocker while you turn bolts on an old supra or hatch porsche or 90's rustang.

No sad news here, it's a win-win situation! You keep the FR-S and get a kid AND lose the Fiat for something more reliable and not weird looking (I couldn't resist). Congrats!!

Do what you think is best, but what ever you do don't be a beat down dad who left a women with his child over a car. Being a father is the coolest thing a man can experience.

I don't have any kids... but I'd put a child seat in the back of an FR-S no problem. You both could have kept your cars.

That's cool you are keeping the FRS but it's sad your girl lost her first automotive love.

Short rant, not directed at you but this idea in general...

What is it about having kids that causes people to suddenly feel the need for big cars? Granted this gentleman's situation, buying a Corolla, is nothing crazy - but some people immediately go buy an SUV or minivan. I just don't get it...

I grew up in the back of a small Datsun and we loved it.
