After watching the video, weight savings was not even mentioned as a design goal. They wanted to make it look sleeker and slightly more modern but still look like a Mustang. It does look a little sleeker, but my bet is it still looks like a pig parked next to a BRZ/FR-S.

I'd still drive it though, as long as it's not cheap 1980's glossy red like the one in the videos. Black or Blue please.

http://www.edmunds.com/car-news/2015...on-a-diet.html The new mustang is an entirely new re-design. Let's hope they learned something from Toyobaru and lighten it up. They kinda need to if they're wanting to compete with any sort of success these days. A turbo 4cyl with 305hp and 300tq in a 3000lbs car would be right. But most important of all, I hope they get the suspension right. If anything, they should use the gt86 as the benchmark when it comes to handling. Ford is really doing good things these past few years. I hope they make this new mustang a real winner.

Obviously they did not shed the weight they had hoped. From Edmunds in December 2013: Quote:
If Ford shed 400lbs, they (Ford) would have mentioned it, and Edmunds and other sites would be all over it. As Edmunds mentioned it is possible that the 2015 Mustang will actually weigh more than the 2014... I hope not... |

You're repeating old information. It is pretty much the same size and weight w/ a few tweaks here and there. They already said they didn't do or want to do a major redesign and they haven't. They are considering a smaller GT86 competitor based on the Stang platform though. This is not the GT86 competitor. It's still the Camaro, Challenger, Genesis, Z car class.

i'm going to actively try and get one if not the first 2015, than at least a 2016 GT. I've always wanted a mustang gt, but at the time i was shopping for a car, I knew a redesign and new irs was going to debut around the corner, so I didn't want to buy a gt with a live axle, plus at the time the gt was kind of out of my price range. Now i'm still paying off my fr-s but i've gotten 3 different pay raises/promotions, I'm eyeing the new gt. I'm not gonna argue on which is the better car, what makes me want a gt is the v8 rumble and raw power. No it won't handle as well as the tiny fr-s but rarely do i find myself out manuvering anyone on a hairpin turn or slalom. I figure I better take care of my v8 urge before i end up having a kid and having to get an suv or lord forbid a van

You're days late and many dollars short plus being shit out of luck and when you enter the checkout line the cashier takes a break. I wondered when the gnat(you)would respond. You really should conjure up better insults because what you're working with is failing badly. Go back to playing Gran Turismo. |

I read the 2015 Mustang article my latest issue of Motor Trend earlier tonight and in the curb weight does indeed top out at 3800 lbs. Apparently Ford forgot the laws of physics, adding stuff does not equal less weight.

As far as I know, there is no definitive answer on weight. Perhaps you read the article about the 2014 GT convertible, which is almost 3800lbs? It mentions the 2015 about 10 times.

This article had only the coupe in it, the car is so new that there is little talk about the convertible. Ford certainly has the right formula for a car built for the world, a lot of power plus the nearly 2 ton curb weight. Bottom line: Want a lightweight American car, buy a Corvette!

The new corvette is around 3400lbs too. Not exactly lightweight either. It does the job and does it well but lightweight it is not.

So what is considered lightweight then?
