Bought a 2011 WRX hatch today! Bye bye xB!

Being on this forum has made me want to see why so many people have the Subie bug here.

Just purchased a 2011 WRX hatch with 30000 miles (50000 km) on it.

Had no idea how quick this vehicle was. Hope I made the right decision. Only mods appear to be tinted windows. It is the Limited with leather, sunroof etc.

Any advice regarding mail tenence welcome. Especially type and frequency of oil changes. Will read thru the manual Thurs when I pick it up.

Congrats on the purchase.

I used to have silver 2012 sedan. Stage 2+. It was a good car. Only reason I got rid of it was cause I wanted to play with another RWD car.

Change the oil every 3k. Don't launch it as hard as you do with the FR-S. The split case 5 speed can't handle many hard launches.

I noticed the oil in the vehicle looked dirty. Will change it ASAP upon pickup.

Forgot to mention, also wanna check the intake hose from inter cooler to throttle body. The coupler tend to come off and fold over in front of the TB, rubbing horse power, sometimes it will make a high pitch whistle noise under boost. WRX went to the flange mount turbo set up in 2008, they have a few quirky little things like our 86s. A good car none the less, congrats on the purchase!

Great car! I had one too. I'd recommend using Shell Rotella T6 oil. The EJ25 does a lot better with a more robust oil. There seems to be issues when people run mobile1. The factory tune also leaves a bit to be desired, even just flashing to a stage 1tune with a Cobb Accessport really wakes the car up. It's also arguably safer than the OEM tune.

^T6 or Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck are very good and proven oil choices for the boosted EJ engines.

I'd have waited for the 2015 personally since the handling of the older cars leaves a LOT to be desired. Dear god they are pocket rockets though.

From reviews I have read the 2011 has excellent handling without harshness. This is the year they widened the track 1.5 inches and went with STI fender flairs. The 2015 is a sedan only, not my preference. This is a Nov to March driver and will take the FR-S's place in the garage otherwise.

I will probably go with a Cobb reflash but no bolt ons nitially.

Congrats! I have owned a 2011 STi for almost 2 years and love it. It definitely drives and handles different than my BRZ but both cars are still a blast to drive in their own ways!

If I'm not mistaken, the maintenance interval for the oil and filter is 6000 kms. As was said don't let it go that far, the oil filter is undersized (for 6000 kms) and will be bypassing by that point. Just don't tell that to the fanboys on NASIOC.

For the love of all that is holy, upgrade the shifter. At least the bushings. Those damn transmissions feel about as good as a 30 year old diesel truck.

Enjoy! I'm jealous, that's a perfect winter car.

Original interval was 7500 miles. Within the past few years Subaru retroactively changed the interval for all turbo engines to the "hard use" interval of 3750 miles.

Kartboy makes all the shifty goodness you need, and TurnInConcepts is running a sale or was recently.

Might install a short shifter. I say "might" since this one I want to keep somewhat stock if possible for now. If it is something I feel needs to be done, it will be. Sounds like a lot of people agree with the vehicle choice...whew! Fun all year round!

This is what I had in mind. It would be almost imperceptible to anyone but those very experience with the platform, and they would probably appreciate it.

Rotella T6 oil seems to be really popular for turbo engines...

$20/gallon , but I have yet to try it.

Am using Amsoil
