Just because older cars were geared for shit fuel economy doesn't mean newer ones need to be! :P
Miata has less displacement does it not? Honda Fit turns around 3.5k at 70 IIRC, but it has 25% less displacement, so it's effectively geared longer. I like that. Here's the issue: 1st gear to 2nd gear, rpms drop almost 40%. So what's the big deal with having 5-6 be a 35% drop? It's not like the car can't go up hills in 6th gear, I calculated there being enough power to travel up a 10% grade and have plenty of power to spare. |
