Also OP if you want to do something while you wait, I'd suggest test driving an RX8, the FR-S will probably won't be far off handling/acceleration wise... If you find the RX8 fast enough and you like the way it handles, it will be a safe bet to assume it's worth waiting for the FR-S (or just get an RX-8 R3 :P).. However, you won't get the same power curve + delivery, 9k rpm redline and probably less legroom for rear seats.. But you'll get better MPG for sure, reliabiltiy is questionable at this point

But ! If you find its performance lacking and end up with the same comments a lot of people like to post (e.g. "its gutless" , "its slowww", "needs more power", "I get beat by Camrys at stoplights") then forget the FR-S altogether - that's my suggestion, I think many will agree...

yea im a mechanic and ive driven a lot of cars including a couple of rx-8s theyr nice cars im just not a fan of their looks. also the engine its not reliable, i think is funny you have to pour oil down the intake to get it to start. also drove my friends 800hp "monster" supra in a quarter mile run that was lots of fun. i work restoring old muscle cars for my father in law who sells them at auctions so i've driven a couple of high horsepower cars. im 21 so if i get an frs/brz it will be my first new car wich i think it would be cool to say im the only owner. on the other hand woulnt ming getting a used low mileage supra just cant afford the 30k price tag on most of them right now either way i decided im gonna wait a year or so before i make a decision.

Damn that's one nice selection. You should definitely get a Porsche 911 and get it built by RWB.
They are amazing machines.

A guy I used to work with had a mint low milage un modified white TT Supra with auto box.
He sold 6 years ago for I think 16,000 NZD to this young guy.
He had it for a few weeks and slid the supra into a pole. Wrote the pole and car off.

Our market had been swamped with 2nd Hand jap imports so vaules of them arnt as good as what you guys have over there.
I see people are currently trying to sell them for between $6900 and $20,000.

Very nice selection though.

It would make me sad to see so many nice cars come and go

Do you have a specific one that you've kept over the years? Your pride and joy?

I still have my NSX that I bought in 1996. I need to drive it more often, as it only has 36,600 miles on it.

RX8's are interesting..... Yes, you will get beaten by v6 camrys off traffic lights, but not at 100km/h rolling take off.... They do lack torque, but the power up high is quite good. They aren't slow, they just aren't fast.
They do handle VERY well. Particularly the GT version we get here. It had the bilstein suspension, 19's and recaro's.
The renesis motor is quite reliable, the coilpacks aren't. The only engines we ever replace are fro automatic cars that haven't been driven properly. Drive your rx8 hard and service well and it will last for ever.
And the 86 is not supposed to be fast like the supra. I wish people would get that through their heads. but it WILL handle better.
If you want out right speed, DO NOT buy this car.

The fr-s is better to have, its a new clean car, its a hardtop with solid handling and good mpg, but if you are after the big HP then go for a supra but good luck finding a clean low milage manual for the same price.

Don't know how much RX7 FDs cost there but just find a cheap one so you have funds for a rebuilt ported engine with an upgraded turbo kit (so no more reliability problems and you start clean) and other upgrades (suspension, brakes, interior, respray).
It's a nice project and will probably cost you less than a Supra or FR-S and you'll be pushing over 450whp and get the perfect 50:50 handling FDs are known for...You'll struggle to find anything to match your performance in a straight line or in a track.

Of course expect 16-18mpg but anything with that amount of power should consume the same amount of fuel pretty much...

oh before someone says it - it won't break that easy if you upgrade apex seals, port the engine, do the necessary cooling upgrades and use a single turbo system you're eliminating 98% of problems as long as you maintain it properly from that point on.

I found a 1998 FD with 19,000km (11,000miles) on a new engine for 11,000$. I'd be interested to see how much FDs cost in the US
