If you do your own maintenance, here's a little gem of wisdom.

Bored, but feeling good, so I started typing...
Hope you enjoy my feel-good story today. Here's a pic of our much-loved "children" together in one place. What a warm and furry feeling. ![]() In case you need it spelt out, we love our cars. In the pic, from L to R... 2003 Subaru Forester 2.5 Turbo - A wolf in sheep's clothing. The ugly SUV on steriods, and she still goes like stink. Ten years on, and she'll do 0-100 in 6.5'ish and easily hit the limiter at 225 on the speedo. Don't look for kak with this old ugly duckling at the lights... But, she's getting old so I don't drop the clutch in first gear anymore. And, having a narrow power band, she's quite tricky to drive fast. If you watch the vid, you'll see that I shortshifted by 300rpm at 180 and that dropped off boost changing to 5th. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qW_9OGXt_JE"]10 year old Subaru Forester 2.5XT - YouTube[/ame] 2013 Toyota 86 Vortech S/C - The newest in the family, and since two months ago's S/C conversion, she's the quickest. Much less dramatic than the Forester, but actually quite a lot quicker. My first S/C car and much nicer than a T/C (IMO). Beautifully smooth and progressive power instead of nothing - big bang - hit limiter - oh shyt missed the gear change... Clocked up 25,000 totally unnecessary kms in 9 months - need I say more? A serious love affair. 1990 Nissan Sani 2.4 van der Linde conversion. Major engine mods done back in 1990. The motor hasn't been opened since then and it's still sweet as can be. This heavy old 2.4Lt 4x4 will still get up to 170+ when needed. Locking centre diff, locking rear diff, 50% low range, oversize tyres, and incredibly robust - mechanically. But, the bodywork and interior are stuffed. Got to decide whether to do her up or dump her. But there's some serious sentiment here, and she can still easily cope with the really rough and extreme terrain which we still do sometimes. ![]() 2004 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS. Lindy's car. Only got 70k something kms on the clock so it's just run in. But it's seen 9 years of daily visits to the supermarket - it could use some TLC from a panelbeater - LOL. Amazing, amazing, amazing handling, especially so because Lindy only puts Michelins on her car, and they're terrific. I'm rarely allowed to drive it after I picked up two speeding tickets in one trip to Pretoria. ![]() Seems ludicrous that we have 4 cars between the two of us, but we keep our cars "until death do us part". So, it is how it is, and we like it like that, and we're blessed to be able to do so. ![]()

That's dedication keeping four cars! I've been there but I have a single lane driveway and live on a busy road so not ideal so had to say goodbye to one.
Nice seeing a vid of the Forester XT in action - I knew they were quick but wow! They were limited to 180 weren't they?Waiting for some 86 footage with the new "addons." Quote:

Mine's limited to 220 (about 225 on the speedo), but from about 2005 on they were limited to 210.
It's surprisingly stable at that speed too. PS: It a speed limiter, not the rev limiter in top gear. On the vid you'll see 5300rpm @ 195 = 6100rpm @ 225 Rev limiter is 6600rpm

Aha, at last I've realised why they insist you wear a helmet on a racetrack.
But I got a plan!!! ![]()

Your 86 looks so interesting, and I see some mods that I'd like to know a bit more about... Do I see Rocket Bunny spats there? And I love your bonnet, except the CF colour... What wheels and tyres you got? And, please tell us something about how you're enjoying your turbo?

( some saving and still planningto do the coil overs and cut the body ). *Body Kit - Combination of TRD and ML24 wide kitt.. and Carbon Bonnet from Seibon. * Will do some Decal to the bonnet and sides ( Turbo red lines ) but still in my head .. not yet the final look . it should happen soon .. *ECU still standard and we configured the maps on the flash. Exchaust is a Power flow system , Replaced the Radio and the rest is stock. The car is running 177 kw on .5 boost .. and planning to install a water \ meth kitt to take the boost to .7 .. ( just to be save ) .. Plenty of power for now and a magical drive. |
