Improve reliability?? Let's see, change the fluids on schedule, use a top tier, highest octane gas you can find.

Most of all ...... just don't mess with it ..... IMHO, anything you do to it won't make it more reliable (unless it's a TSB thing). These cars appear to be quite solid right out of the box.

Have fun!

Thanks, hmfrz. The only thing I did to the mini was oil catch can and PCV plugs. Thought the Scion may need something similar. Other than that I don't plan to do much to it.

Also, it does have the factory wing on the back. That and a carpeted trunk mat are the only options or mods on it.

welcome, I'm pretty new myself, but after lot's of searching, from what I can tell if you are looking for price for performance, stick to drop in filter for intake. If you want noise, then go wild. Just a caution, some changes in intake and exhaust will require a tune or you might get a check engine light.

as a newb myself, from what I can find, you may want to swap out the manual transmission and rear diff oil after a short break in as they seem to shear off a lot of metal fragments during break in. It seems the favorite here is the Motul gear 300 which will work in both trans and diff.

here's a how-to with some pics of the shavings on the drain plug at the bottom of the first page: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19218

You may be interested in this little mod ..... it finishes off the trunk in the FR-S. Not that you plan on spending a lot of time in your trunk ....

It's relatively inexpensive and easy to snap it. They come standard in the BRZ .... so, it's a BRZ part.

This was one of the first things I did. The guy at subaru looked at me like I was crazy for ordering it. He couldn't believe the scion didn't bring it. He had to come out and look lol.

My name is Dusty.

Great forum. Excellent information available here. I've had my FR-S for about a month. I put some photos in the garage.

I'm in my mid 30's, Active Duty Navy. Married with two daughters.

I bought the FR-S because I saw it in the showroom (I was at the dealer having a 4Runner inspected) and it was beautiful. When I saw the boxer, the RWD, the price, I was hooked. Cool car for the price. I've done lots of drag racing in the past but I'd like to try some autoX.

Welcome to ye ol forum and congratulations on your new car!

Thanks for serving our country .....

When you mentioned drag racing, I thought for a moment that you were planning on drag racing the FR-S. Straight line - 1/4 mile - 10-20 seconds .... poof, the fun is over....

I understand autoX is a bit more fun - if you like driving around cones in a parking lot.... which is OK....

However, IMHO, if you want to have some real fun with the FR-S, get that puppy up into the hills/mountains on some curvey roads ......

Hello! I bought a white Toyota 86 (yeah we get that here instead of the FR-S :p) not too long ago. It is the base model though, so I won't get getting the LED headlights sadly. Only the base model is offered with a manual transmission here, so I didn't have a choice since I wanted a manual. Anyway, I will be able to pick it up in a few days, so I can't wait until I my hands on it!

Some stuff about me: I'm 20 years old and have had a license since I was 18. At first, I wanted to get a manual transmission for my license, but my dad didn't let me do that because my brother had repeated his final license test 11 times.... yeah, no idea why he failed so many times. Anyway, my dad didn't want that to happen again and insisted that I get an automatic license only since it's easier. I had no choice but to obey Anyway, around 8 months ago I decided that I really wanted to get a manual transmission license and asked my dad to let me do it again for the manual. Surprisingly, he was actually fine with it and didn't tell me not to get it or anything. Getting it was a lot shorter that getting my first license because I already own a driving license, just needed to adapt to the manual transmission. It took about a week and half to finish everything. I was worried that I'd forget how to drive a manual by the time I was finally able to buy an 86, but recently I've driven a friend's car which was a manual and I was really surprised because I didn't forget it one bit! only gotta practice launching though as I was slow with that. Anyway, I really enjoyed it whenever I drove a manual, really way more fun than an automatic! Forgot to mention this, but my first car was a Civic 2008, which I guess is a good car to start with.

Sorry for the long story about myself in my first post xD I hope I'll be enjoying my time here & get to know more about my car and how to modify it in the future if I decided I wanted to

................rehdogg15!

What a great car for a young driver....

Manual vs auto driver's license .... that's new one for me.

Be safe in your new car!
