Realistically what am I looking at to get 300BHP at the crank?
Firstly I would prefer Supercharging at the method.
Will the stock injectors and rail be up to it? Of course going after market air-filter right off the bat. Exhaust unit, anything proven off the shelf that will produce a Non-Fart-Can sound. ECU remap, again of course. And I know I'm missing a lot of bits&bobs but a reputable shop/garage known for reliable and rock solid and reputable service. Hell I would take it o Sharkwerks up by the bay but they only work on Porsches. If you could ever afford a 911 Turbo, 997.1 and on and with double clutch 997.2 thats all you will ever need; oh and good insurance. Truthfully i drive my Scion much more and an currently looking at the Scion C3 for my new business car. Very much easier to park. I screwed up and test drove an Abarth, whoops! |

Just one and only one minor off topic comment and I promise I won't thread jack.
LBC por siempre is "Las Bolas Caidas" por siempre?? ![]() J/K. For 300 BHP on a S/C look at @charged86 and @nelsmar and their builds and how they got really close or over it. Stock injectors and rails are not up to it.

300whp is a lot different than 300 at the crank.
Since we seem to lose around 20% hp from crank to the ground, 300 at the crank is probably close to 240whp. That should be achievable with the stock fuel system. I know the stg 1 AVO turbo kit can hit this. Pretty sure the base vortech sc kit can too. |

As does the intercooled innovate.
Seems like the only FI systems that don't get you quite to 300hp are the base innovate (which gets you close) and the electric superchargers, which get you all the torque but don't quite get there on the high rpm side. Edit: They all seem to be capable of 300hp on stock exhaust too. No fart can. |

I think that the Vortech, Kraftwerks, and Jackson Racing kits will all be able to get the 240-255 whp that he is looking for out of the box with a good tune. The stock fuel system should be fine, and I would go with a nice 3" exhaust and a 2.5" overpipe and 3" midpipe to complement it. Perrin and Nameless both sell full exhaust setups that should work well.

Yeah, I just did a very rough guesstimate. I'm sure it's not linear and the power is likely delivered differently depending on the setup etc.

300BHP? Just a bolt-on forced induction solution.
300WHP =/= 300BHP for the folks reading this thread. |

Just a minor quibble, but it's generally 20~22% drivetrain loss for AWD's. Around 18% for RWD, around 15% for FWD. All of that is not terribly precise as there is so many factors involved. Really, the only way you can get a precise crank hp figure is with an engine dyno. While we have one, not many manufacturers do.
All that nit-picking aside, as a general rule of thumb 250whp on most dyno's will roughly equal 300 crank hp. That's easily achievable on the stock fueling - that's our basic stage 1 kit at 6psi. |

you want more than 300hp at the crank. this isn't a miata... it takes some motivation to get moving. i'd say it started getting fun just north of 300whp.
i really expected that i'd enjoy this car at 250ish whp, having driven many miatas around that power level that were plenty fast. i was very wrong in that expectation. this is no miata, and frankly it just doesn't seem to respond to power the way my previous 'lightweight' cars have. then again, i guess 3000lbs with a driver and fuel isn't exactly light to begin with... |

I think it totally depends on what you've driven, or have been driving.
I had a WRX pushing just under 300whp and it felt like a rocket. It was the fastest car I had driven by a lot. Years later, I ended up in a Prius. Coming from a Prius (for two years) the stock 86 feels like a rocket. I'm sure if I drove a 911 or a Vette I'd feel differently. Unfortunately hp is addicting and no one is ever really satisfied

There are a few bolt-on forced induction systems that will get you right at 300 crank HP or more. Both turbo and Supercharger. Custom tuning and/or a supporting mod or 2 will make that job even easier. Most even have potential to go much higher should you choose to later on down the road.
