If anyone can bring a cheap, lightweight, sports car to market and beat the Japanese at their own game it is the Koreans.

Yeah it definitely looks like the rear seats will be tiny from that top-down silhouette. And agree on the RWD. It's kind of fun when manufacturers release tidbits like this. Leaves so much to the imagination.

I am also hoping this will be lightweight. The Twins need some competition in the lighweight RWD coupe segment, as competition = evolution.

I don't think everyone is hating. It's more skepticism over the hype if anything.

I'm all for any new lightweight, lower priced RWD car. Kia has made some incredible strides in the quality of their vehicles, take a look inside the new Optima if you need an example.

Kia's styling department has also come a long way

NO FWD though, that would ruin it IMO

It looks like a baby Z from up top. I like it! Plus it is low slung and sleek looking. Low slung/sleek > Muscle/Pony coupe anyday for me.

It's going to be a squished Soul that's RWD on a smaller Gen Coupe platform if I had to guess.

Until KIA and Hyundai can get their steering and suspension to not feel like video game controls, I'm not interested. :-(

Hey, at least they're trying to make interesting cars unlike the majority of other car makers! Practice makes perfect!

Agreed. Toyota can't even make a decent sportscar without subarus help, don't even get me started on Honda.

just like japan has stolen styling for the last 50+ years. its what you have to do in order to become relevant.

well something to shake up the competition, maybe this will help wake Nissan and Honda Up from their slumber of boring concepts. Love the 510 Nismo tribute though.

Hopefully they updated it's looks since 2007, because the Kee 2+2 sport coupe concept wasn't particularly "pretty"...

Kia teases sporty hatchback concept ahead of Detroit

Quote:
The UK arm of Kia just released a teaser image (click to enlarge) for a new concept car that will be unveiled next month at the Detroit Auto Show. With little information to go on, the single overhead shot of the unnamed concept shows that it will be a two-door hatchback with a 2+2 seating configuration.

The brief press blast, which is posted below, promises that this is a new concept vehicle, so it's unlikely that it has anything to do with the similarly shaped Provo Concept that Kia showed off earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show. Kia says that it will release more images of the concept soon, but it won't divulge the full details about the car until Detroit.

Press Release

KIA TO UNVEIL SPORTS CONCEPT IN DETROIT

-First image of new concept car
-Designed by Kia team in Irvine, California
-2+2 sports concept to star at NAIAS

Kia is set to unveil a stunning sports car concept at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January.

Conceived and designed by Kia's California-based team at Irvine, the 2+2 sports car is aimed at delivering head-turning looks whilst providing superb driving enjoyment whether on the road or at the track.

The concept will be unveiled at Kia's stand at the NAIAS on Monday 13 January.
