I do not brake check people unless they are driving sports cars. Firstly I have learned your ego needs to be out of the equation, I tend to follow closely because I "do" keep my eyes on the road and the conditions ahead. I seriously, do not "do things" while driving that take my focus off the road, I am a very boring person to ride with because I do not divert my attention, it makes me feel "better" than other people, and it is safer. I almost died learning a lesson. It is not about your capability it is about others you are leading. (be a leader) I was coming back from North Carolina and on 85 south outside of Greenville Southcarolina last december I noticed an 18 wheeler right on my bumper and we were three wide , consistent traffic in all lanes moving at a steady pace of 75 mph. I really didn't mind, I watched him and actually said to myself "I wonder if he thinks he has enough brake and tire ..to stop in time from that distance" because I know what my car can do *shrug* oh well ..he has a better view of the road itll be fine. Concrete K rail dividers are beside us as we are in the left lane, there is no emergency lane or passing space. Suddenly traffic comes to a dead halt in all 3 lanes. and the K rails JUST stopped and opened into a wide median ...I barely keep the pedal feathered above ABS engagement and when I hit 10 mph I think OH FUCK ...THE TRUCK ..I was about to hit the ABS by flooring it a bit more to complete the stop. but a thought burst into my head "GO!!!! THE MEDIAN ..GO!!!!" I started to pull off to the side and was in the middle of transitioning from brake to throttle when I checked my mirror ..He was coming so fast still that at 10mph ..I could not accelerate through dirt even with the Helical diff to avoid him ..so ...I stood where I was at and watched him plow off into the guard rail at 40mph and he snatched off a piece of my bumper with his wheel lugs. Had this happened 300 feet sooner, I would be dead. There was no place to go. 10 tons of steel with the momentum of a 40mph velocity would have had to use my car and the car ahead of me to stop itself. Had I considered "pacing" the person behind me, and driving at THEIR capabilities ..it would never have even been an issue .... Drive for the people you are leading, its fun. It will teach you to be more concerned about the capabilities of others around you and will even help you on the track. Just remember, you can drive better than they can ..and they wouldn't be tailgating you through a complex corner section (that is probably why you bought your car in the first place) therefor what they think doesn't matter. Be safe :-P. "I KNOW what I can do mother fucker??? Do you?? Im just being slow for YOUR benefit" |

Weakest link in the chain ruins the whole chain. Tailgaters, imho, aren't usually the best drivers because they fail to take into account everything ... especially their stopping and reaction capability.

Welcome to driving? Just don't be 'that person' who brake checks. Sometimes/lots of times people tailgate because they have their head up their ass and don't remember the two second rule.
Only thing you'll do is get yourself in a wreck, and if it's on an interstate/highway speed you'll get a quick introduction to real world physics. |

This was a joke I was making about Initial D and tofu deliveries. I think the OP was making the same joke saying it wasn't tofu deliveries. |

That's Memphis for you. Drivers here are polarized to the extreme, they're either very lead-footed or crawling along at a zombie pace. Plenty of crazy-aggressive rednecks in trucks who think they're better drivers than they actually are too, I tend to just let those go unless I've got a turn coming up and I can lose them.

Just flick on your washer fluid for front windshield and it spray them if they are too close
![]() I get these kinds of issues too. More frustrating when it's cold out in the morning and the engine isn't warmed up. I keep my shifts under 3000pm until engine is warmed up, but people are all over my butt when going to work. Also our car engines take like 15-20 minutes to actually "warm" up depending on weather conditions as I live in an area with cold winters. |
