My Golf had cloth in the wheel wells. I'm going to call the VW dealer nearby and see if they can get it and I'll cut it to fit. Not sure I want to glue it in, though, as I'd like it to be removable for cleaning.

How about spraying some undercoating/soundproofing stuff in the wheel wells... ??

Note to the younger generation: If you've ever wondered what the old folks meant by the "sound of rain on a tin roof" ...... just sit in your FR-S during a rain storm ....

Yes, and the water froze in the wash bowl in my bedroom during the winter ......

That's a good idea. All I really want to do is absorb the sound of things hitting the plastic. Tin and rain is a nice sound.

This became very noticeable after I put on my R-S3s. Just leaving the neighborhood resulted in my wheel well getting pelted with gravel and I live in a suburb.

I have 18x9.5 in the rear with Michelin Pilot Sport 255's and it sounds like rioters are pelting my car with rocks anytime I get even the slightest gravel patch. Very surprised at how sticky the tires are compared to stock.

I assumed they didn't weigh the car down with sound deadening material.

But is sound deadening material really that heavy? It couldn't add more than like 30 lbs right?

Use a felt not to deaden the sound, but to absorb the rocks hitting the plastic.
