Angry people do stupid things if you had proof you could had gone after him. But I am sure there was not a conveniently placed camera to view the perp.

I have posted this before, but the best deterrent is to use the car to go shooting. I have done this for every car we have. Load it up with every firearm I own, bring several (and typically empty) ammo cans out to the car. The trick is to do it on a nice day...like memorial day before the parade starts. My first car got keyed twice, after my public display never touched again. My neighbor accidentally backed into my sisters car 3 blocks away, came over and gave us insurance info and letter claiming responsibility for the damage. It works guys.

If you don't own firearms (or don't like them, cant own them in your state/county, or don't want to openly show you own them), a NRA sticker goes a long way. Or you can get a glock, S&W, FN, etc emblem and that should do the trick as well.

Thieves and vandals are INHERENTLY terrified of pissed off owners, especially those with firearms.

I don't think so. I live in a college town, and a lot of people are back home for winter break. It happened between 6 AM and 9:30 AM, when my car was parked in the lot behind my apt.
