I'm in a state of existential crisis right now, not sure about whether I want to take a fancy money moving job right out of college. If I do, well I probably would just grab an Elise or Evora (though that thing needs a lot of fat trimming...) after a few years instead of deal with this car. I think the 2ZZ depends on how willing I am to get rid of this car in the near future... a 2ZZ swap runs 2-3k labor, and fresh engines go for quite a bit of money.

A 1ZZ upgrade would entail a new shortblock (there are probably lots of old Corollas in the junkyard where this can come from), milled, fitted with the old head + upgraded valve springs and camshaft and a C60. Labor would run about the same, but I would be spending only 1700 on a brand new shortblock + 200 in valve springs + 600 on a Greddy emanage ultimate rather than 4k on a 2ZZ for an engine that should last until the body falls apart due to rust. I imagine the 1700 for the shortblock can be cut down significantly by buying a slightly used one.

All in all, still a 5-6k affair, only saves 1000 bucks in some cases. So then I guess the question is, why not just get rid of the car for 5k and buy a clean 2zz swapped one for 10k and end up with a much faster car? Yea, I think that makes a ton more sense LOL. Okay well, if I want to put in different cams afterward then I'll have to pay up.
