For the autox I have done I prefer the stock suspension. Most of the lots I have run are very choppy, very bumpy.

I appreciate the extra travel and compliance of it in those conditions.
Dealership test drives suck for sure. Mine was a joke the first time I pretty much ruled out the car. Second drive I went and just beat the snot out of the car (Told the sales guy ahead of time) and he bailed on the drive.

The chassis sold me, the motor not so much. What coils you have on?

He bailed in the middle of the drive? Haha I had to read that twice.

Tein Monoflex.

Well, kind of an update.

AP Sprint Kit is off, too cold plus salt will ruin them.
Truth be told its a track kit, or a hot weather abuse kit. Not going to fit the bill in cold climates even on street pads. Obviously knew this going in but confirmed it trying to run on street in cold. Consider AP street kit for year around duty.

Almost positive rotors are warped as well.

Perrin Oil cooler disconnected. Over cooling oil 30 minutes and never above 160F. Push it hard and it will go up and plummet right back down. Another mod not winter ready.

I guess its back to racing the town and country digitally.

This was the review by Automobile magazine of my car. Kind of a waste of time but whatever. Added to build thread.

The 370Z still won't weigh what the BRZ/FR-S weighs. That is a pretty horrible article.

Not to jump in this build thread for an off topic/late response but, I had an 06 Insight as well. Love the car and had several trips from NC to Detroit in the 90-100 mpg range. Sold the car when the (now) wife moved from michigan to NC and needed a car with more room. I luckily had none of the issues Dezoris had.

On topic, Dezoris is that link the review in its entirety? If so that's sort of sad

Yeah I did not expect much honestly but it was pretty half ass.

I loved the Insight one of my favorite cars, until I had to replace everything near the end of its life.

Yeah article was pretty tepid, but then again most modern auto journalists are not car enthusiasts.

Well winter is here, and like most mods in an area with 4 seasons not everything works so well.

  • Disconnected oil cooler. Thermostatic plate? Still over cools the oil cannot get the oil past 145F last week.
  • Battery Trickle Charged. Nothing running or plugged in. Does that fuel system check really kill the battery? 8 Days in cold garage=dead.
  • Connect Aeroquip Plugs. Used -10AN plugs on oil lines to avoid debris and threw sandwich plate in box with other junk.

Do you know what temperature your sandwich plate is supposed to open? You might be able to order a different thermostat.

No it doesn't. There must be something else putting a load on the charging system.

185F but obviously the trickle flow still has a drastic effect.

All that work just to "winterize" the car. Why not just drive a winter beater?
