Also, this is your first car. I do not intend insult or claim to be el-driving-master when I say this but, you don't know how to drive. You can't. You haven't been doing it long enough. It'd be one thing if this was turbo'd from the factory, but aftermarket FI is another beast all together and the power gains over stock are generally... substantial. Lots of fun, but it takes a disciplined foot to keep out of trouble with it. While you're saving up that $$ you're also gaining more seat time, driving experience, and maturity. You will need that experience to stay alive on the road. Also, your insurance right now is probably in the realm of "sky high". Imagine if you crashed b/c your FI'd car got just a hair away from you and you had to make a decent claim (let's say the front end is pretty much banged all to hell). That really high insurance rate is going to get even higher, and then they'll also know from the damage estimate that you were FI modded. Not good. Wait till you're older and insurance rates for you have dropped. Then take that $$ saved and put it into your "I want turbo!" fund. Till then, enjoy. This car is a ton of fun from the factory (one of the major reasons some of us "traded down" from much more powerful cars to get it), so enjoy it for what it is. Then later power mod it. Final addendum: Wise man once say, 'Best way to make small fortune: start with large fortune; add turbo.'

It's called GAP insurance. It pays the difference in what you owe vs book value. It's only a couple hundred dollars that's applied within the loan amount. As I've said already, I make sure to have a good portion paid off so I don't put myself in that position.

While I agree that stretching yourself thin financially on things like car parts is a bad idea, I will give some oposition to this situation.
I'm 37 years old and honestly the only regrets I have in life thus far are the things I have NOT done. I have been tuning and blowing money on cars for over 20 years and dont regret any of it. Life is very short. You will enjoy these things now, and all you have is now. Be smart about where you spend your money, but dont worry about being overly cautious with money and everything in life. It becomes a lifestyle of moderation and doesn't lend to experiencing life to the fullest. The most finacially tight and responsible people I know all lead very manicured and safe lives (and many envy being able to live outside of that box). I'm not saying F%^K it take a loan on a turbo as a teenager. That's adking for problems, just dont live life moderating and evaluating every step you take in fear of what MIGHT happen. You get one shot, make the decision that's best for you, and take it.
