Well it's a lightweight one piece econo-shaft, but the grenade point is closer to 135 than it is 115. Even still, that should have been self-evident seeing as the GT and six don't share the same 2-piece shaft.. It was the same with the old Mercury Maurader's vs. Crown Victoria. Also there are audible indicators the shaft is about to grenade anyway, people just like to ignore things like that.

I don't think anybody was surprised by that quote. There is no way a sporty car the size and mass of the GC can give better feedback to the driver than a smaller sporty car like the FR-S. I wonder how it feels in comparison to something its size however. |

Yeah, and I think that's why a lot of people on here are keen on...that weight isn't "everything" like someone said, but it's a thing you can't simply overlook for that very reason. And why it will be a blast to push an FR-S/BRZ around. |

But what a lot of us do realize is that adding power is easier than adding lightness. I have a feeling that the 'NO TURBO!!!' 'official' stance is more to troll Hyundai than anything. Hyundai has pretty much now done all that can be reasonably expected in the performance department for the GenCoupe, while TMC/FHI still have the option of a forced induction trump card. All they would need to do to match the GenCoupe V6's power to weight is to match the 2.0T's hp. And that number will likely be the base WRX's, not even looking at what an STI will put out...

It really isn't, I like the BRZ/FRS/86 as much as the next guy on here but some of us have really bought into the marketing for this car.
I love the Idea of a affordable, fun to drive, small car. If there was a 2+2 hard top equivalent to the Z4/s2000/Boxster S I'd be all over it. Some of the best praised drivers cars of the last 10 years have been 600+ lbs heavier than the AS1, many with much more power as well. Fact is, that car doesn't exist. I Live in Minnesota and am not fan of convertibles, nor am I interested in a 25k used M3/3 Series/Cayman/whatever that will perform much better than an AS1 but will come with 40 -80k miles and a much higher cost of ownership. The GC is an amazing car for the cost, and assuming they've improved the past generations transmission woes (as read in reviews) they've managed to improve an already solid offering. I understand that the AS1 and GC are not true rivals in classification/performance. but to consider one without looking at the other given the few similarities is unlikely. |

^ Not that good of a sign that they gloss over the shifter/transmission with a bit of a negative comment.

The only difference is that the 86 trades off some power compared to the Z4/Boxster S (its pretty close to s2000) for more affordability. In terms of "performance" vs. the M3/3 series/Cayman/whatever, again the 86 trades off power for more affordability. Otherwise the feel, handling and balance of the 86 should be up to par with said cars. |

It seems like they [the magazines] have trouble trying to find a direct competitor. FRS, Pony Cars (6 and 8cyl), 370Z, G37S, 335i they are going all over the map between the 2 engines. |
