Any idea when official info will come out for 2015 FR-S?
I just wanna know, hate waiting. Even Ford just came out with 2015 mustang specs.

It's marketing, if its gonna be something huge, I doubt they'd say anything this early cause it'd hurt 2014's sales. ppl would just wait for the super awesome twincharged 500 hp 40 mpg 200 lbs lighter 2015.

Way too early to be looking for 2015 info, considering the 2014s launched not even 5 months ago. It's different for the Mustang because people have been talking about the 50th anniversary re-design for over a year now, much like the re-design of the WRX. Both big re-designs that everybody has been expecting.
Give it at least 3 more months and we should have some rumors/leaks, which would mostly be speculation.

Usually Toyota doesn't do a mid cycle refresh until about year 3... but these changes are mostly cosmetic.
I call by 2016 there would be a slightly changed front bumper, different interior cloth, standard automatic/dual climate control, center arm rest, bigger or different exhaust tips, keyless entry...and turn signals in the mirrors.... and on top of that a few extra thousand on the price tag. I think the next generation FRS would be the power upgrade... |

Are you guys expecting big changes for 2015?
Toyota, and most auto manufacturers, work on 5-7 year product cycles with a mid-model refresh in the middle. Toyota in particular usually goes 7 years between MAJOR changes. Typically, an update happens in year 3 or 4 which is something along the lines of a new option package, minor facelift, etc. It's rare that a powertrain upgrade happens, but it is possible. I would think that niche vehicles like the 86/FRS may be an exception to the rule, but I don't think it's that likely. My guess for 2015 is a minor facelift and some new options. Just a guess on my part, and I hope I'm wrong!

Highly unlikely for it to get a power upgrade this early into the model itself. Maybe a new chassis code (like the change from the GD to GR in the WRX/STI), but that'll be it.

No and I'm not alone.
I would bet that if the 86 gets any power upgrades at all before it ceases production it will only be to compensate for weight gain (i.e. 100-200 lbs and ~10-20 bhp). Of course I could be totally wrong, the new Mustang delivers, the Miata is better than ever and Alfa re-enters slightly up market forcing Toyota to upgrade or be embarrassed out of the market. I just realized they are slightly out of phase so they can gauge the reaction to the cars listed above as well as any offerings from Nissan, Hyundai, Chevy/Chrysler and Honda right around the time for a hypothetical 3-4 year refresh (announcement in 2015 for the 2016 model). |

Considering how little they'll say about the monogram series due in a month I doubt they'll talk about the 15 until next winter

This keeps coming up, doesn't it?
The twins are meant to be entry level fun cars. Stripped of all that's not necessary for every day use (or, completely stripped for those that like it more hardcore in some parts of the world) and affordable. The '15 upgrades I expect to be really minor. As was stated already, no big power gains without weight gains, etc. There's also never going to be a 300-350bhp version of the twins. Simply because a) Toyota is hinting more and more at a Supra revival of sorts, which would fill that slot and b) Subaru has little interest in pushing the 86 platform into the price point where it becomes a competitor (price-wise) to the STI and such. |

I fully expect the FR-S/BRZ/GT86 to always, always have the FA20 motor we have today. I think the car will be developed for 5-6 years, and then they won't sell enough after.

Cars are marketed around the 18th month buyer usually. It's why redesigns are done at 36 months or 3 years, because you can't expect a person to return a third time for the same product. That puts notification at or around 17-18 months into the second full year, so excluding the early cars (first 86, last quarter of '12) which are excluded from market research as outliers, that will be about June 2014. Although it probably won't be much of a mention until after the July 4th holiday sales. If they do anything drastic we might see it earlier, timed for Detroit & New York Auto shows in the Spring but if we do, they'll deliberately withhold pricing/details so as not to cripple '14 sales before mid-year.
