my $500+ radar detector does me no good in NY unless I am city driving. All the troopers rock the laser, or they sit there with KA and don't turn it on until you're already screwed.

time for a laser jammer! although, I believe they may be illegal?

sorry

Here's my 2 cents.

I have been driving with a standard escort 8500 x50 for the past 5 years. When on the highway, even with my radar detector, I go around 5 over posted speed limit. I use the radar detector to really be more aware, and if I'm in a rush.

That being said, in 5 years I've only got tagged once. Just a few months ago I was driving my normal +5 speed when I came up on someone slow in the right lane. I gunned it around him, cause you know, (this is in my FJ cruiser mind you) and got absolutely nailed by a laser. Didn't see the cop, radar detector freaks out, and he just got me clean. I was doing something stupid like 82 in a 75 and he gave me a ticket.

I do not like driving with out a radar detector unless I'm driving to work and back. It helps keep you aware. Even though I did get screwed on laser once, I can truthfully say that in texas, cops aren't lasering so much. I get a ton more state patrolmen using KA and K bands.

Worth every penny. Get a used escort 8500 x50 on ebay for <$150

Gased up my FRS for the first time! Averaged 26 MPG hand calculated. Filled up with 91...first thing I noticed is that the engine runs a lot quieter.

Also bought road hazard from Americas Tire, Free Balance every time I come in for a rotate

On other news, found my first chip

Just got my K&N air filter and Toyota emblems from @FT-86 SpeedFactory

They put Laffy Taffy in the box. I will be making them my exclusive shop for 86 gear. That's just good customer service.

I also use a radar detector. I wish North Carolina was like Texas. I rarely get a KA or K band unless I pass a store with a auto opening door. I get more false alerts than anything. My radar detector is "suppose" to recognize laser detection, however, it only works if the cop is aiming it at the person in front of you. I agree though, it does keep me more aware and gives me a sense of protection. I got pulled once for doing 85 in a 65 (on a major interstate where people were PASSING me.) Cop says "looks like that radar detector didn't do you any good, did it?"

Adjusted the ride height lower. Gonna try to go in for an alignment tomorrow.

Also picked up a BRZ bumper locally. Getting it repaired and painted silver on Monday. But did quickly testfit it to see if there were any fitment issues. Have to order a few clips from Subaru on Monday as well.
