Block your cabin noise pipe and pretend you don't hear the engine?

Not sure what to tell you, na 4 cyl aren't exactly something meant for low rpms.

If mpg is your rpm concern the car even with a manual can easily pull over 30 in highway driving despite the epa rating.

I average around 33, have seen a best of 36 and thats after ditching the low rolling resistance tires. Others here have claimed even higher.

not terrible for a cheap to maintain rwd toy

Thanks I'm sure I'll hit decent mpg; and for my purposes will have plenty of power. I'm not going to be racing the car.

DANG, bestwheelbase, one of us is having a brain fart on this differential ratio thing for the FR-S......

From what I read, the rear end ratio is 4:1, for both the MT and the AT.

Help me out here.....

Unless you get a diesel, or a big V8, most cars will cruise at around 3000+ RPM

This car will hit 100mph at about 4000rpm in 6th gear

However, my car accelerates from 70-100 mph within a few seconds. Redlining in 4th gear takes me over 100 mph.
I've always been curious as to the redlines on the MT.

On the AT, 1st red lines at around 32mph, with 2nd redlining at 62-64mph, 3rd redlines at 86-87mph. I've only red-lined 4th once, so I cannot recall how that one ends.

5th and 6th? God knows. I don't think there is a straight away long enough to get that far.

I guess some of this will rectify itself with break in . And so far I only have 375 miles on her so far. So the engine should loosen up afterward

MPH to RPM won't change with breakin...

unless you meant to write umph instead of mph

It's probably me... I may be confusing USDM FRS specs for JDM 86 specs. We need to make a compilation of the various technical differences to eliminate my brain flatulence.

86 manual in Japan has 3.73, I know that's right.

Edit: You should see the badass list of components I'm creating to build my perfect car. Most of the components are things people never even see, but it's going to be so rad.

Can I boar yew? (As one w/ a bit of grammar/spelling OCD, I can relate.)

As to the original question, I don't find this car underpowered. The tires aren't very sticky and the speed limit is not above 65 hwy where I live. Taking a corner at 50 that's marked 25 (not speed limit, just the caution signs) is a total blast! Commuting, I usually shift at about 4K and get 31 mpg. Having fun, I wind it up to 5-6K+ and . Downshifting to pass is part of driving a stick.

Same gears , final drive ratio and top speed. 3.875 / 81mph

But it gets muddy... 71 ... 72 lists beetle and super both 4.125

Lists 4.125 final but top speed is still 81

Makes me brain hurt ...

That's raises an interesting question. Is there a difference in the minds of law enforcement (ticket worthiness) of surpassing the posted speed on a caution sign versus a speed limit sign?
