Lighted Up Exclamation Point
A lighted up exclamation mark came on on my car today, and the engine started making a large clicking sound. I currently have about 2,750 miles on the car. What does this mean?
I installed a cold air intake and a crank pulley a month ago. Should I install my oem crank pulley and air intake before I bring my car in the dealer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

That's not the check engine light. Tire Pressure warning maybe?

Look it up in your owner's manual. According to the BRZ manual, an exclamation is for the brake system and recommends checking the brake fluid level or ensuring that the parking brake is completely released. It does mention that the exclamation is only used in Canada though as the US models say the word "brake" so not sure if the FR-S is different.

I checked my brake fluid and my tire pressure and everything and it was perfectly fine. If it is a tire pressure problem do you think I still have to go through the trouble of reinstalling my crank pulley and air intake. It's not like they would check that If it is a tire problem right?

Not sure it's 100% the same in a Scion, but there are only two exclamation signals in a USDM BRZ. TPMS (! inside a tire profile) and an electric steering warning (! next to a steering wheel pic). My TPMS light came on the other day. It was cold and one tire pressure dipped below 30psi.

using this as reference. That's your TPMS warning light. The recent cooler weather would also cause this light to go off. I've been ignoring mine for a while now as once I've driven enough the tires heat up and the pressure goes back into a reasonable range so that the warning light goes off. As winter gets closer I'll probably top them off a little.

I had this light a few weeks ago. I looked it up in the manual and it turned out to be low tire pressure. Just top off your tires and it should go away.

My wife once called me because the TPMS light cam on and she didn't know what it meant. She described the light as "An angry fishbowl" LOL

TPMS, check your tire pressure on all 4 and add air as needed and continue to monitor to see if you have a slow leak. Find the tire that's the lowest and you found your problem.
Stock tires should be ~35 PSI. Certain aftermarket ones work better with a bit more air around 37 or 38 PSI. If you're in the 32-38 range, you should be okay. |

The TPMS light comes on when air pressure is low to the point of causing safety issues. If you ever see it you haven't been filling it up often enough, period.
You can still have low pressure that's going to cause uneven wear or low MPGs and no TPMS light on. |

I like how a thread from a year ago is being brought back for no reason other than to laugh at a comment, but anyhow...
