Why? Who gives shit?
You guys are fuckin ridiculous with this Just buy the car you want with the options that suit your wants and needs and drive it to your heart's content. I'd rather have an intelligent discussion about gearing options on a variety of possible transmissions that might be offered. The last time I heard anything good in this thread it was about which company was going to build the 6-speed, whether an AT would have 6 gears or not and what were the odds (and advantages and disadvantages) of a dual clutch SMT option -- not this stupid "Duh, of course I'll drive a stick -- check out my big hairy balls" horseshit... How fucking old are you guys? Sheesh

I think it will have an automatic... IMO the auto should be like the one in the RX-8, if you get an auto, you also get a less powerful / lower revving engine, maybe some softer suspension...
Let the people who just want a 'sporty' looking car have it, and make a real driver's car for the real drivers. Toyota'll sell more, making it less expensive for everyone. |

ROFL. While I wouldn't buy a car like this with an auto, I still ROFL @ upitty Americans who think it's a special magic ability to drive a stick, and that "real drivers" don't use Auto. I agree though, It'd be retarded not to have an auto version, but why should the people who buy them get the shitty end of the stick? |

Anyway, the fact remains that most auto drivers just want a sporty car. You can be the exception. Perhaps you have a Gallardo with e-gear and track it every weekend. However, most people who choose the auto want a better interior, stereo, and ride. They don't care about autocross times. Ultimately, that is the type of person toyota cares about because that type of person sees the car, falls in love, and drives off the lot with it -after they put it in drive that is. |

To me its like a pretty girl, if you take her home and bed her and find out she's lame, best believe sooner or later u will get bored. I'm just happy its a looker and has got some performance to it, she's a keeper in my book so far. And as was said by Matador, it doesnt matter if its auto/stick, because we all know it'll come in standard, not everyone wants to drive standard all the time, I know my clutch foot gets tired after a run through manhattan. |

I just hope it's not hard to find a manual version in the dealers. Just try to buy an Civic Si in SoCal. Some dealers are even selling them for 28K. 28K for a freaking Civic! If Toyota makes them all manual they will be easy to find for a fair price. If Toyota makes automatic version of the FT-86, get ready to order from the dealer and pay top price if you want a specific trim, color, and tranny.

It's quite easy to drive a stick if you care about driving. But, as Myka said, many people will just want the 'sporty look' - so Toyota would sell a lot making a comfortable, automatic version for them - and then have the manual be a more focused driver's car for those who want it (the whole package of tighter bushings and firmer suspension, a more powerful / higher revving / at least quicker-revving engine and 6-speed making it the car for 'real drivers'.) The more Toyota sells, the longer and cheaper it'll stay on the market fr people like me, who won't buy this straight out of the box but probably 6 years from now. |
