I finally bought some uber accurate scales, so I've started weighing things. Here's the first lot of stuff I've taken out. Minimal tools/effort/time taken. 20kgs in 20 minutes
![]() All weights are metric. (kg) Car is NZDM 86 spec (Non GT), which is a lighter version than US spec - which is similar is to NZDM GT86. (Non GT has lighter wheels, seats, brakes, different interior etc etc) So, some of the parts I have may be different to US spec cars. Anyway... Before I stripped, I weighed car... 1194kg with 1/4 tank of gas. So, Toyota NZ's claim of 1180kg is pretty bang on. Stripping time... Boot floor panel 1.231 Boot internal side linings 0.403 0.417 Boot rear centre trim 0.313 Centre foam tyre well insert 0.570 Side foam insert 0.182 0.173 Jack + Handle + 2 tow hooks + wheel brace + screwdriver 3.105 Rear seat back 6.969 Tyre repair kit 1.351 Rear seat cushion 1.893 1.867 3rd brake light - detachable part only, not incl. base 0.196 Rear seat belt receivers (both) incl. bolts 0.308 Brackets found under rear seat cushions, assume for child seat? 0.285 Bonnet/hood lining 0.456 Owners manual/service folder 0.903 Rear floor mats (both) 0.368 Total removed 20.990 Some other stuff I had laying around Bride Low Max bucket seat - fake - seat only, no brackets 5.830 Bride Low Max bucket seat - genuine - seat only, no brackets 5.527 205/40/17 Achilles 123 Semi slick - new 7.986 205/40/17 Ling Long Crosswind - 90% tread 8.850 |

Not so much a weight reduction as a balancing act, but has anyone moved their battery to the trunk yet? Even if you're only running a 5lb battery, 5lbs out back is better than 5lbs on the nose.

I got a 3 pound battery. I don't think the extra cable would warrant the move. But yeah, if you're more concerned about balance than overall weight reduction, then moving the factory battery to the back would be a great idea.

The battery in between the two axles is the better way to balance the car. Most guys mount the battery behind where the passenger seat used to be.

For the guys that did the 3 lb battery, did you just put together a custom tray and tie downs or what? Is there a kit? I've been looking but only found an 11 lb kit

Yes, I'll make a DIY for the battery tray solution, but... spoiler alert... I'm just going to drill some holes in my firewall and zip tie that bitch to the firewall. The end. LOL but my diffuser is going to be absurdly complex. Excuse my drunkeness. I don't know where I live right now.
