The concepts are normally pretty awful. This one kind of excites me though. It reminds me of the Datsun 510:

Datsun and by proxy Nissan were a curse word in my family growing up, because of that I've never even looked at one.
the 350Z was the closest I came to liking something they made, and then they got rid of it. Not a fan of their current line up, or this one. |

Looks like Rolls Royce Phantom's body, BMW 3&5 series' headlights and front, and Camaro tailights at the back.

boxy< low slung. I will never like boxy styling for a sports coupe. I feel a sports coupe should always be low-slung and sleek and the FT86 looks the part while the Nissan looks like a 2 door sedan like a Challenger...yuck!

For a modestly powered street car downforce is not necessary, but low drag is of course *highly* desirable for fuel economy. And top speed

As for the other "concept" someone here said it looks like two trucks sandwiched a camaro on the freeway. I totally agree. I DO like the retro side view mirrors though, reminds me of the Datsun 240z..that's kind of cool. If they want an FT86 competitor, they'll have to make a low center of gravity, RWD, high compression engine vehicle that is track oriented. Tests have already shown their 370Z, while fast, feel disconnected and clunky on the track. I've watched numerous videos of testers driving vehicles and comparing to the 86, the Z just doesn't cut it for them, regardless of the power it has and overall speed. Bringing back the 240SX would be a smart move for them. |

I think a lot of you are missing the point here.
Its a design exercise, the big reasons concepts like this exist is too test or show future design language. I think the IDX is a feeler for how the should style the promised 86 fighter. Stay with the lines laid down by the s cars or try something different (retro)? The concept only exists to gauge public response. Cars like ours classically sell poorly, introducing competition into the market isn't going to introduce many new buyers, they're going to be scrapping over the same buyers currently grabbing 86's. Assuming they build a better product and grab an amazing 75% of the market for these cars we're still looking at about 30,000 units in America. And that's assuming that sales for the '14/15 MY's will stay strong and/or people will be willing to trade their 86's for one. If Nissan makes this car and hopes to make money the HAVE to hit on all cylinders. I expect more concepts to see what plays best with people. As for the concept itself, I have the same thing to say about it that I do about most retro designs, you don't move forward by reaching back. Their is a difference is being inspired by the past and attempting to duplicate it. I think the idx treads a little to closely to the latter. |

Both companies make a good product and I've owned both. But the Nissan from my experience has been that the Nissan is just a cheaper built version of a Toyota.
Feel, fit, finish is consistently better on the Toyota, and in this comparison the Toyota concept is just straight up Sexy |

Okay, not to sound like too much of a ****...but still wanting to hint at my frustration, where did you get these 'facts'? I didn't read this whole thread...I'm sorry. After the first two pages people where just making stupid fucking Camaro metaphors. Any ways, this car isn't a Silvia rebirth. It's more in line with the 510 and it's going for that retro 70's-era styling. The picture in the first post is the ugly version. This on is a little bit better. ![]() Let's face it, it's not that amazing. But then again when I saw the unveiling of the FRS at the LA Auto Show I have to say I thought it looked too gaudy...like a nerd sketched it in class to be The Boy Wonder's signature vehicle or some shit. Just overdosed on trying to be 'sleek and cool'. If you aren't Nissan heads, how can you talk shit? Name more than 3 70's-era Nissans without Googling it first. I know we're here to voice opinions but when they're just pulled out of your own anus it gets frustrating...especially because I'm a Nissan fan. |

Under 2600lbs
Capable suspension and brakes Not a roadster/convertible 240+ HP turbo RWD Manual trans Under $25k Small overall length and height with short overhangs (longish wheelbase) If Nissan could build that, I could almost careless how it looked. Unfortnautely, nobody seems to be able to do this in todays market. I think the Nismo version has some potential though. The side profile looks great, the front end needs some work, but not the kind of work they are doing on the average Nissan. Current nissans are so...blah... I'm sure Nissan will put a CVT in it and make it weigh 3000+ pounds though...which then puts it right at the front of the list of cars I'll never consider buying.
