Not questioning your decisions but rather curious about the logic.

Why buy a new car with less miles and make it a track car rather than an older one?

This is based off the assumption that the older DD will be less reliable than the newer one.

That aside, subbed for the build! Curious to see where you see the most difference!

Because the FR-S was supposed to be such a great driving car, and I wanted a great car. The ol' Tiburon is plenty reliable, so I wasn't really in the market for a new car. I know I'm doing it backwards of most people, but trying to make the Tiburon into a great car would have been a monumental task. The 86 comes from the factory great. I see it more as a toy than a brand new could-have-driven-this-thing-comfortably-to-work-car. And besides, except for how it's probably going to be obnoxiously loud, it'll still be street legal. So anytime the Tiburon is down, I can still take the FR-S if need be.

Sorry if this was brought up before but,
Not sure, if I missed something, or if it was edited. But why was this FR-S being bought used? What happen to the first owner? Why did he let this one go? Not sure if I was reading it correctly, but it seems like the first owner traded for another white FR-S? What's going on here? What did I miss?


BTW, what kind of steering wheel is that? It looks like a steering wheel from a Lotus Elise?

Thanks for the reply! So you have the first owner's replacement FR-S and he no longer has a FR-S? Now it makes sense! Haha

So it is the Lotus steering wheel! Just out of curiosity, what made you go for that? I look forward to your update with that steering wheel. Does that steering wheel have the same logo design as you have on your signature? (I'm guessing you're going to custom it?)

Oh, I didn't realize that's what the confusion was haha.

I went with the Lotus wheel for three reasons:

1. Save some weight (although not as much as I could have with an aftermarket wheel)
2. Because even though I chose this car over an Exige, I still want one. I'm a fan boy and not afraid to admit it.
3. I'm pretty much taking the Lotus philosophy approach to this car - performance through light weight - so with the authentic steering wheel + seat which is a copy of a Lotus seat, it will have a similar feel in the most direct sense, what you put your hands and butt on.

And of course the airbag wouldn't work, so I gutted it. So now it's pretty much a Momo steering wheel that says "Lotus".

very unique build it seems. interested to see how it turns out for you. I am curious about a few things. it seems cutting weight is your main objective, so you plan to gut the interior? and since you only purchased 1 seat, I am assuming this will be a single seat car? in regards to the seat, what is your plans for safety belt system? any type of cage or bar system will cost you some extra weight but seems necessary in your type of build. Seems like you have replaced most items with lighter weight parts however I am curious where else you will shave some weight? carbon body parts?

The first seat I was looking at was a typical racing seat with really high sides that required a harness. Then one day I realized this seat is compatible with the factory belt system. So that's what I'm going to do. Not only did it save weight vs. a harness and cage, but it's thousands of dollars cheaper. If I ever decide to get serious with the car and enter events that require a cage and harnesses, well then... I think we all know what will happen then.

I have plans/ideas for other means of losing weight, but those will be kept classified for now. Definitely have some radical (ridiculous?) ideas. Stay tuned...

The Lotus wheel is good just the leather has no grip. I'd send it to JPM.
