Don't purchase an extended warranty AKA a "protection plan"; it is a load of crud, and it will cost you. It'll cost you ~$2,560, and it'll get worked into your financing. After talking to several people that have purchased one of these from Toyota/Scion, all of them have said that it was not worth it, and it didn't make up for half of what they paid for it before it expired.
They will likely try hard to sell this to you. It's supposedly good for so many thousand miles yet you're actually going to end up getting ~25,000 miles less than that due to your car still being covered under the standard warranty/Scion Boost. They'll tell you all kinds of BS they'll lead you to believe your car will completely fall apart before 100k miles, that it's a gamble not to get it, etc. Tell them that you'll take the 'gamble' that keeps money in your pocket rather than the one that keeps it in someone else's. I got roped into buying one of these since my FR-S was my first new car, and I was inexperienced and ultra-paranoid about anything happening to it. Thankfully after talking to a few people and doing my research I decided against it, and was still able to cancel it since it was still within of month of purchase (which will still cost you a $25 "processing fee"). |

Yep, all I know is that when they put me into that little back room with that charming, pretty lady that has a computer and she starts in on making all those "optional" things sound really attractive and important, I just keep replying with "no thank you, but thanks for explaining that option".....

I would recommend bringing a friend who has had experience purchasing cars, you might feel more comfortable.

Or just wear your big boy pants and know that you don't really need anything else other than the car. It's just odd how some people are so scared with car purchases, when they deal with (and often avoid) getting upsold on a regular basis. Ever bought a suit? I'm sure that they offered six different shirt-and-tie combinations to go with it. Ever bought a pair of Jordans? I'm sure that they offered the matching socks and warmups to go with it. Ever bought insurance? I'm sure that they offered rental car reimbursement, towing/roadside and also home and umbrella insurance too. JUST SAY NO!

It doesn't matter about the Pure-Price. The Pure-Price is there by Toyota, so less people get Rip-Off, in order to build the Brand Name.
There is always : MRSP > Invoice > Hold U can interpret it as Above Market > Good buy > Below Market Now their Pure Price, I don't know how exactly they Construct it, but there is always Room to flex in there. Truecar.com is the website that collect Real time Data of Sold vehicles. That means you can always pull that price, or even better. Dealer can always sell car at Invoice, or below Invoice price. They will not loose any money. Because there is a thing, that "hold" the real car cost in there. I forgot the true Terminology. For Example, Invoice of a car is 23,000. The "Hold" value on the car usually is 1,500-2,000 on it. That is how some people are able to negotiate below invoice. Most of the time you can only have 500-1000 in this Hold area....you have to do some legs works. They won't give this in for you that easy, however at Invoice number they will. Sometimes, just depend on your luck. They may need to hit their Quota for the Bonus from the Manufacturer. They will sell you a car at their loss, for the Bonus or Quota. Give the small, net in the big....kinda game. But that only happen a few times a year...mostly once per quarter. Toward the end of the Quarter or the month or both!!! Now this Negotiation does not Include any Manufacturer Rebate, Cash, Discount yet. Toyota have November to Remember. I think you can lock in 0% now ? I don't know about their time frame. Good luck shopping though. Tell them that you are aware of the "pure price" but if they are not willing to discount you, that mean you are buying it else where, even if it is a BR-Z. A local dealer already offered me 2500 off on a 2014 BR-Z already. But I am still holding out, and waiting for the STI to see. Do not rush, willing to walk out, remember "It is your Money, Your car" Good luck shopping, be brave, and you will learn |

So the dealer is Financed Straight out by Toyota, and not other Banks ? How do they not have the "Hold" in there ? Unless they are Straight financed by Toyota, or how does it work ? But If Scion priced it that way, I think the BR-Z with Negotiating will be a better killer deal |

i for one don't like leather seats due to the lack of breathing and i have no need for navigation (i'd just buy a GPS if i really wanted it) and have no need for automatic climate control (basic air fans do their job just fine thanks) heated seats are nice, but again i don't like leather seating sure the front headlights are better on the BRZ with the addition of foglights that come standard and in my opinion are the only premiums in the BRZ that are worth the cost engine start and stop buttons are completely pointless; who honestly has trouble inserting and turning a key? i really can't wrap my brain around the point of this and i feel like the inventor of this should be slapped for creating this pointless invention but where the FRS really shines is the Oversteer versus the BRZ's understeer. every day driving this is much nicer and in a split second emergency being able to turn on a dime could mean the difference between an accident and avoiding one and then there is the front end.. no contest when it comes to the look that the FRS looks sharper and more aggressive than the BRZ's smiling face with a night guard/retainer in it's mouth even at the same price or slightly lower, i'd still choose the FRS if the differences in price were vastly different i would probably consider the BRZ and overlook the options i don't like about it |

As a first time buyer, on top of what everyone else has said, I would suggest bringing someone who has gone through the process and be ready to walk away from the dealership if they do not meet your demands. Last but not least, it would not hurt to have an idea of what you are willing to compromise on to help with the process.
On my second go at getting my FRS, the whiteout they had had a few minor upgrades that I was willing to compromise for if they made up for it with my trade. The dealer was playing hard ball and would only meet us at $500 for our trade. My fiance was eligible for the then $1,000 new grad rebate and we wanted at least $1,000 for my '96 Mustang to make up for the accessories on the whiteout. We literally said "Thank you for your time and have a good weekend" got up and walked out the front door. Long story short they worked with us and nearly a year of owning this car, I smile everyday I see our car and get to drive it! Good luck on your purchase! s3 Tapatalk |

But it's not one of those things that you can't give up once you have it either.
