I personally prefer the sleek look of the FT86. That's one of the first things I fell in love with. Making an inexpensive sports car look more like a sports car/exotic is far more attractive to me than the retro look. I'm only 28, so maybe my age may affect that opinion, but I dislike the look of most older cars, especially the ones with awful aerodynamic designs.

Not a fan of the body style, but those enkei apache type rims are pretty slick in my opinion. I would love to see nissan back in the game, but with something less embarrassing than this. This coming from a former 300zx tt and g35 driver. And if Toyota could shake off years of dormancy to launch a firecracker like the 86 (albeit with more than a little help), then I'm sure Nissan can as well. C'mon nissan, I know you can do it!

Not sure why Nissan is so hesitant to release an S16. The name alone would grab tons of attention. If they make it look as good as the other Silvia's with similar handling to the FT86 platform but with 2.4L engine and more hp/tq... they'd steal a shitload of sales from Toyota and force them to make some big improvements on the second gen FT86. We need more competition for our particular market...

Couldn't agree more. But nothing can compare to 90s styling. 300zx, Silvia, mr2, supra, rx7... Then we had some sad follow ups with the 350, 370, mr2 spyder, rx8 etc etc.

Maybe the release hasn't come due to skepticism about having too big shoes to fill with the last model Silvia (s14/s15) ??

I'll be a happy man when the 90's models become the new retro (in like 20 years?)... the 90's were the golden age for Japanese sports cars.

In 20 years the Supra, RX-7, 3000GT and GT-R will be to today's 20-30 year olds what the Muscle Cars (Challenger, Cuda, Charger, ) are to the 40 and 50 year olds of today.

Nissan is struggling on the market. The GTR alone can not save the brand. There othere vehicles suck. Their Z is doing alright, and the reason Nissan see no future potential for another Coupe line up to be sold well.

Coupes are for college grads and tuner mostly. There is not a big market for these, even if they want to compete.

The best market now is Crossover Utility Sport, and Sport hatch back. Every one can use one.

Have you seen one from Nissan ? Their Murano suck....Rouge...Puke...all suck.

Toyota have RX, RAV4, incomming enthusiast NX....Audi Q5...BM X...whatever.

Nissan need to save the brand first before a hobby like another coupe production. Toyota is stronger than ever, so a hobby production is nothing.

I am eager to see new Supra, but I doubt it cN have the price and performance of the Corvette C7

And this isn't based like based on the body, it's based on the spirit, it's based on what those cars represented in different eras. Now if this was an apple to apple comparison it would be something that is based on a single car to make it fair. The only way this is at all a fair comparison aside from the fact that they are both based on some spirit of something is if the FT86 concept was based on nothing else but the AE86 being it's also like you said and Econobox race car like the corolla it used to be. That would make it fair since the 510 and this IDX is still a 510, there's no Silvia or Z influenced at all.

Lastly, you mentioned how you find it hilarious about what that exec said, and I do too I'm not arguing with you on many grounds I'm just trying to point out how the comparison is very unfair. I mean really are you gonna listen to this exec that obviously don't know at all what he's talking about saying that this is the competition for the 86, when clearly the press release says it's a design study that may or may never make production.

We knew about Toyota's intent when they came out with FT86 concept, they had told the world about the collab, now this 510 shows up as just some random hommage. I Do not, believe for a second that this is what they are going to make and use as competition until it's in full writing full press release.

It's not just Nissan we heard many car companies before the execs come out to say we have this and this ready to battle this and it never happens or it's far from the truth.
I have to disagreed with you. The Nissan concept looks a lot like their other past models as well. All of these old Nissan cars look alike to me

That is exactly it, because of how expensive and much less practical of the Z. They are not selling as they expect. Now the 86 came out. Should Nissan drop the Z all together and go for 86 competition ? I don't think they would take that risk.

Again, all of the Japanese car makers are suffering, and that includes the Honda. Only Toyota is so strong to make car any more. Did you see they got damaged from Tsunami, Thailand Flood, Nuclear plants danger ?

Toyota is still producing as a Top global manufacturer.

The only Manufacturer that have money to play around is Toyota. They took a huge loss on the LF-A already. That is to prove to the world that Toyota is capable of making Super-Car with Exotic Materials. On top of that, they were built to Last tracks after tracks of abuse.

Now, would they truly bring back the Supra ? it is still in question. But it is no Doubt that they will Buff and Polish the 86 Platform even further, seeing how successful they are selling it.

86 has more Demand, and potential. Toyota will not rush it, they need to make profit, and tight the loose ends in the Toyo-Baru contracts before they do anything.

With the way this leading to, I can only see 86 will improve, still affordable. New Supra or not, it will most likely to be Over the price range of the people who is hoping to afford it.

The 93ish supra were sold for 40k. With nowadays inflation rate that will be about 100k. That is GT-R range. For 60k, that is C7 Range. It will be most impossible to Import a car with C7 Performance and remain the same price (C7 is really a Feast and a Beast). I really don't see the Supra revision.
