I must admit I love the vents, had them in my F250 work truck many years back. would be pretty cool to have them in our cars I think I would use it a lot, as I don't use the A/C very often and mostly drive with the windows down.

I realize you are kidding
but the REAL function was to exhaust cigar smoke or cigarette smoke to the outside and not have the wind blowing in. This meant for a more relaxed smoke. Of course, those were the days when they had as much as four (4) cigarette lighters (not electrical receptacles) in a car. (For cigars in cars such as Lincoln, Cadillac and Buicks and cigarettes such as Ford, Chevy and Plymouths). Today, it may have a different use but wouldn't help much, IYKWIM. |

For some, this will be necessary even when driving alone. |

That's ight - ALSO
That's right. Also, in many of the fullsize cars of the 60s and 70s there were what we called "crotch cooler/balls blowers" vents. They were located in the lower instrument panel and directed (adjustable) to the middle of the seat. For those posters who "wish they had" some feature they were dreaming about: GET OVER IT!

I loved the crouch coolers in my minivans. They were separately controlled and allowed my wife to have the heat on and I could keep a temperature I enjoyed.

How about installing a steam engine while you are at it?

Dual role is feasible. Connect the rear mounted steam engine to the front wheels via another drive shaft then exhaust the steam cylinders through a trunk mounted steam whistle and then the rear diffuser for additional thrust and ground effects downforce.... totally cool. As they used to say.
