I also don't get what the fuss is about? EVERYBODY knew Subaru wasn't going to be able to split the WRX off the regular Impreza line. They just aren't in a financial position to do so. Look how hard it was for them to even agree to produce the twins. Also, the WRX has never really been a very distinctive vehicle from the base model. They just spoiled everybody with the last two years models of WRX with the widebody and flashier trim. The WRX is what it is....a Turbocharged version of the base model Impreza.

I recall while researching our 2012 Impreza before we picked it up the savings was attributed to a lighter engine, chassis, and interior materials choices. I don't see why this wouldn't translate over to the WRX model as well.
From Road & track
"Curb weight for the base model is 3267 lb. That's a mere 60 lbs heavier that the previous WRX, but it should be noted that the CVT equipped car carries a hefty weight penalty of 166 lbs."

In 2011 the STi was around 200 lbs heavier than the WRX, so the 2015 should be the same, unless Subaru pulls a miracle.

Could you imagine if Subaru made the BRZ by themselves.

The WRX simply needs to go back on a diet and same goes for the Legacy. I can't stand seeing Subaru making these cars bigger when they don't need to be.

Idk what displacement they're getting in japan, but the last gen wrx and sti here are 2.5L Yes, they are getting almost the same HP but with a smaller displacement the potential ceiling isn't as high. Which is why i'm assuming it is so hard to get power out of our 2.0L fa20 even with FI. I can't remember the last wrx they offered A/T, not here in the states anyway. The whole soccer mom or teenagers trying to buy a fast car to be cool really annoys me. Maybe it will grow on me when i see it in person, and i'm proven wrong about the displacement. Also, i remember reading in an article about the 2015 wrx before it was released saying the subaru is now targeting a wider audience and not just its current enthusiast (probably for sales purposes)

Subaru sales have been on the rise by A LOT in the past couple of years. In fact they are having trouble keeping up with production and are even opening a new factory in the states. I was under the impression they were splitting the wrx from impreza for the next gen, which was what i have been reading in a bunch of articles. I think the fuss is they keep showing us hot concepts and giving us something else. We are fine with Subaru making "ugly cars" this one just looks boring. Their previous models may have been ugly, but none imo looked like a typical family sedan ie coralla.

The wrx has been 2.0 here in the past, the sti continues to be a 2.0 over seas. The smaller displacement motors are actually stronger than the larger US motors. Power is hardly an obstacle for either. The fb20 DIT has no trouble getting big numbers. And the wrx has had an auto for all years before '08/9. I can tell you arent well initiated with subaru's forced induction lineup, no need to knock what you dont know.

Where did you see me knock on what i don't know? I never said there has never been a smaller engine than the 2.5 in the wrx. I was simply implying that they are regressing in power potential by going to the 2.0L from the current 2.5L. GENERALLY speaking, because i have not done any research, if the new engine is anything like the Fa20 then i would ASSUME that it will not be as easy to get simple/cheap high power gaining mods like the current wrx can get. Cheap relatively speaking to the 86. You cannot tell me that there is replacement for displacement. I also never claimed that they never made A/T, i stated that i didn't remember when they discontinued doing so. I never claimed to be an expert in subaru FI lineup, i am simply a car enthusiast stating my displeasure with how they decided to move forward with the wrx.

You said the ceiling wasnt as high. Thats not true. You said it is harder to get power. Thats not true. And you asked why subaru was moving away from what made them successful and then began to knock their standard 2.0 displacement and the fact that they are offering an AT again. Neither of those things is a move away from their success.

Either way check out the FB20 DIT, it's a potent powerhouse with plenty more oomph to spare; it's also more powerful than any WRX's 2.5EJ has ever been so it is not a regression and is a replacement to displacement.
