I don't see how you can possibly state how much they would have to change to fit a turbocharged engine that hasn't been seen yet into a car that hasn't been released yet. The fact is they are using the same FA20 engine in the new WRX and that is going to be turbocharged. I don't believe for a second that subaru would develop 2 cars at the same time and not give themselves room in the engine bay to make it fit. These things are planned out very carefully and aren't just schemes hatched up in a back room halfway through a production cycle.
Dude, I really don't know what planet you're living on, a ton of peole will cross shop a 370z, with an sti, with an evo, with even a mustang gt. They're all around 30k and they're all sports cars. Most people aren't so hung up on its gotta have rwd, or it's gotta be NA. They just want the best bang for the buck.

the latter 3 get cross shopped but not with the first one very often.

that is like saying a Z06 is cross shopped with a cts v sedan and a skyline gtr gets shopped with a panamera turbo

edit: for that matter they would need to be worried about a brz being cross shopped with a regular wrx which they obviously aren't.

Everything else is just marketing hype. They have you hooked so mission accomplished. The rest of the world may not get a turbo but 200hp is not enough to compete in the US. Especially not when they will have an emissions approved engine sitting on the shelf. Throw in some brembos and suspension tweaks along with badges and instant sti version. I don't care if this is an sti car or a tuned by sti or whatever as was discussed at length earlier in this thread. In the US it is an sti model.
Well there is a new WRC 2WD class coming, R-GT (or already running?). You never know...

You would not have thought that an Exige would be turned into a rally car but:

Maybe they will then. Being as the have already shown a car for gt300 it seemed unlikely to me that they would jump into another racing series since things aren't much better for them than when they pulled out of wrc back in 08

i can definitely see BRZ running 2wd pro rally event and being very competitive. In stock form it has enough balls on gravel to run par with 300hp fwd cars. Which is what that segment is mostly going to be comprised of apart from Porsche and BMW also running 2wd rally events around the world.

To me it seems like you hold some strong biases. If you think 370z's don't get cross shopped with evo's and stis, but mustangs do. z06 might certainly get crosshopped with a cts v. As would a panamera with a gt-r. 4 door vs 2 door isn't a deal breaker for most, infact usually they might be interested in the 2 door but actaully get the 4 door because its more conveinent. They're all fast, they're all sports cars, and they all handle well. Why wouldn't they get cross shopped?

They don't have to worry about the brz vs the wrx so much because the brz is so gutless. The wrx still has huge appeal in that it makes more power, and will be more mod friendly. As soon as you put a turbo on the brz, that advantage quickly disappears.

I'm not saying that no one has ever cross shopped those vehicles, but the average buyer of a 2 seat car is not going off and test driving 4 door sedans. Likewise people that buy 4 door cars don't go comparing them to 2 door coupes like the BRZ. Cars like the 370z and the BRZ are going to be second cars for a lot of individuals. cars like the evo and the sti are bought by people who only have 1 car.

We will have to agree to disagree because while I agree that the STI and evo are sporty cars I would never consider them "sports cars" like the BRZ or 370z or miata or corvette etc.
