tpms broken
So I took my brz to get my snow tires mounted today and they told me one of the tpms sensors was broken and was just bouncing around loose in the tire, while I know tires and rims aren't covered under warrant are the tpms sensors?

I would guess that the shop that mounted your snow tires broke the TPMS in the process of unmounting your summer tires. I doubt the dealer will cover it under a manufacturer defect.

That's impossible. If it was broken to begin with, your TPMS light would've come on. I'm also betting that the shop broke it while taking off your summer rubber.
This is another reason why I buy a separate set for my winters: less chances to break something.

Agree with above - if the TPMS was broken, your light would've already told you that. Shop broke it.

I agree with the above. The type of sensor/valve stem our cars use is similar to the Acura system I worked with for 7 years. I broke the first one I tried to remove a tire from. If you don't stretch the bead around the sensor, the bead will catch and break it off.
I suppose there is a tiny chance the factory improperly installed it, the sensor fell off in the tire, and somehow didn't get beat to hell rolling around inside and was still transmitting. That is not the most likely scenario, though.

The shop broke it, they will need to pay for a new factory sensor and for the dealer to program it.
