Very honest review and for me constructive.
1. you mentioned the good things about AVO and their product
2. your build thread provides a lot of information for those considering and have bought the kit
3. you started the AVO owners thread, another very good source of information and support

I have benefitted a lot from your posts and threads. Decided to go AVO because of the local rep's ( MFB ) attention to detail. I got the first "official" AVO kit in my country and the information you posted as well as other members have been indispensible.

I hope this prompts AVO to continue to improve their products.

Can't say thanks enough Sportsguy83, specially for you funny comments.

This is not having a dig at you or anything. I am just making sure I have the full picture as this forum has too many people posting bs opinions/reviews.
I didn't annoy then into rushing me a kit. My kit was supposed to arrive in March but hadn't. I contacted Paul a few times (about once a week for less than a month) asking for a status update on the kit. The last time I asked, I was told they had just received a kit and the person responsible for it did not have the funds to pay for it at the moment. The only drawback was that I had ordered with ceramic coating and this one did not have it. I said no problem, I'll take it without coating. That was my "pestering to get a kit rushed" you talk about.

In between the first message and the three months, I sent a message close to the first month mark basically saying: "it's been a month since I asked, there have been other owners with issues and have received compensation, what's the status of my request". I received a response of yes it's true it's been a month, we will get back to you.

Anything else your honor?

Sheesh some of the comments about the review are snarky. A member posts an honest review thread and suddenly he's to blame.

I would like to thank @Sportsguy83. He has been a valuable source of information. He remained extremely positive throughout his ownership of the AVO system and hasn't bashed the company. He's used products from different vendors and his reviews have helped steer me clear of certain vendors.

I appreciate his honesty.

Hopefully, AVO will take this feedback and better improve the quality of their system and respond to customers post-sale more efficiently and effectively.

All good man.
I would've bugged them about that replacement but anyway.
In fact, pretty sure I told you to look into it when I saw JD86 got a new one.

Cheers for the clarification bud.

Thanks, and that is the only end result I would like to come of this. No hate for the company, EVERY company has good and bad reviews, it comes with the territory. This is just feedback for AVO to take and improve their product, nothing more. I know there are a lot of extremely happy customers with the kit, many many more good reviews than bad.

At the end of the day, all of the major FI kits out there for our car are priced around the same ballpark and have comparable engineering going into them. The real difference between all of these kits is how the manufacturer/vendor backs their product up with service when something goes wrong or not exactly to the buyer's expectation.

I appreciate these types of reviews a lot more than dynos and other performance-related reviews since this gives us a perspective into the longer-term "relationship" that part of our investment goes toward.
@Sportsguy83 - hope you get the FI option that meets your needs and wants, and I hope AVO takes this review constructively to improve upon their service delivery.

I also find the review very useful in one important aspect - how manufacturers support their customers. And AVO 's response, or lack thereof is troubling to me at least. This is not how companies should treat customers. The emails may have gotten lost in the crunch of doing business, but that's not an excuse at all - part of customer support is to log, keep track and address every reported issue. Which obviously didn't happen here. AVO 's kit was also on my radar, but Sportsguy83's experience especially the response part is troublesome.
Yes FI kits by nature are not easy to support, given that the experience level of installers vary, plus there are other variables too. But companies ought to at least try to understand if there is a problem they need to address. Also, the flatness of the flange - it is supposed to be flat, period. Having to flatten it before installation is not acceptable after asking the customer to fork over 4-5K. Just my thoughts.

The two main issues I see with this type of turbo kit, which will obviously apply to most :-

1) The people installing them don't know what they're doing
2) The manufacturers don't offer good support

Before everyone gets their knickers in a twist, for example, a) how many people have leak tested their intake tract post-install, and b) how many turbo kit dealers/manufacturers told you to do so?

Boost leaks are the biggest turbo killer.

Harsh as usual, but partly true.

I sold my AVO kit a few months ago. At the time I sold it, I had acount of in forum kits of around 60 sold (which was an absolute exaggeration it could easily have been 30 but wanted to be uber conservative), and 15 forum members that had contacted me letting me know their manifold was leaking too just like mine.

The worst part of it all is the constant denials from AVO that there was any issue at all with the manifold or anything in the kit. It was either bad install, incompatible overpipe, bad gaskets... Nevermind that the issues ranged from stock overpipe to several aftermarket, to using stock gaskets, thick grimmspeed gaskets or Subaru legacy turbo gaskets. The issue with my manifold and several others where warped flanges.

I had never bought anything before with such high hopes for quality and been extremely dissapointed with the whole experience, quality and customer service.
