Need help with shifter dimensions
Hey so I have this wacky idea (gated shifter) but in order to pull it off in UG and to save me the head ache of having to rip my shifter out of my car-now that it's put away for the winter. I was wondering, if anyone who has replaced their shifter with short shifter and is familiar with precision measurement, could measure their the stock shifter for me and give me as much detail as possible about length, ball/pivot height from the linkage bore, the diameter of pivot ball, width of the linkage cylinder., angle of rake of shifter from the pivot, etc....so that I can make an accurate CAD model. I hope I'm named the different parts correctly if not feel free to correct me. Thanks a lot in advance.

I'm close to durham. Do you just want my stock shifter to measure and you can get it back to me when you are done?

measurement won't matter since the trans is mounted on soft rubber bushings and the shifter carrier is as well. In short, the shifter location WILL change with loading and unloading of the drive train and chassis.

But points on the shift lever don't move with respect to one another.

I'm pretty sure the LEVER stays the same. I said nothing about any other part...

I've thought about that, haven't got to the point of figuring it out yet, just running ideas through my head, but I'm hoping with trans bushings things will be more precise. Although I'm aiming to develop something doesn't require those so I don't have to buy extra stuff. We'll see how it goes, what got me thinking about it was the R8 gate and lambo gate=pure awesome not to mention the Ferrari's of past.

no, but they may move with respect to the chasis, which is what the gate would be bolted too no? Not sure if this idea would work or not but given how much i have seen shifters jump around during wheel hop I don't think so.

Am i mistaking when I say the diameter of the reverse lockout probably make the distance between gear changes to small to create a gated shift pattern? Yu would probably have to eliminate that reverse lockout.
