There's no pattern to it besides the ethanol content being one of the factors. I've thrown temperature out of the mix because it doesn't seem to matter. I've chirped at 30 degrees and at 85 degrees.

Best part is, it DIDN'T chirp while I was at the dealership with the tech yesterday. It did slightly after we drove for about 10 minutes, but not the loud chirp like it did a few days before that. Thankfully, I recorded it on my phone so I didn't look crazy.

Just over 1600 miles on my 10-series and every tank of gas from the beginning I have been using Union 76. (92 octane premium) They say their fuel has 3x more detergents compared to other major brands, I have yet to hear the chirp. <Shrug> Of course, I have absolutely no way of knowing if the gas is the sole REASON it is not chirping like so many other cars.

Chirping Fuel Pump SU003-05176 update:

"Matt,

We did call technical again to open a case with them. They want to call some more engineers higher up about your car. At this point I am waiting to hear back. They may end up sending engineers here to investigate your car. So, I will keep you posted when I find out anything."

"Another up date, they are tracking down the production date of the fuel pump we put in your car. They want to make sure it is not a bad batch of fuel pumps. At this moment technical is trying to put their heads together to figure something out. If you want to pick your car up it is safe to drive. I do not know when I will have an answer."

Staying in the Camry in hopes they might need my car for investigation. Here's to hoping they figure something out and something gets done for all of us.

1) Here we go again....

2) The Camry isnt too bad, if its a V6. I was in a 2013 not too long ago and that was a fun car to drive. Looked boring as hell, but still fun.

New pump in as of today, got her first oil change done while I was there since they offered it for free for all the bs. On a side note it stated on the paperwork the oil change would have cost $80 lol.

The regional rep that has been taking care of me called me on my way home to touch base about the service, etc. We talked about any future issues and he said as far as he knows there is no new new pump en route. We spoke about running 100% non ethanol vs the 93 I've been running and he said there is no reason to run the 100% non. He stated Subaru knows about this issue and it has nothing to do with the fuel so there is no way to justify the added cost. According to him that I have my warranty for 60k miles and no matter what it takes SOA will take care of the car they sold so if I need one HPFP or five just take it to a dealer and get it done.

Guess I'll see how it goes but god it is so nice to be cricket free.

I've got to disagree. I switched to pure gas on an empty tank and the crickets went away as I pulled out of the station. After two absolutely cricket free tanks, went back to Shell 93 and the crickets came back almost immediately. Granted my car is an FRS, but this kind of evidence is hard to argue with.

So I got my pump and it's a ton quieter than the original one. No more crickets and no more woodpeckers, but there's still some percolating from somewhere. As long as the woodpeckers don't come back, I'm happy. I'm going to live this up for the next 2 weeks.

Looks like I spoke too soon. The smell of gas is coming through the vents and in the engine bay. I think the dealer gave me a visconi tune with the new fuel pump.
