The 86 that I would of bought, to bad in America this model isn't available,...blank canvas to build upon. Steelies, no nav/radio, not even cup holder.

Toyota GT86 offered in stripped down RC flavor... in Japan

You are so right! Like me you must be born in the "40"ties or before! Now the cars are so much better. I use to spent so much time in repair shop that the mécanik use to become my "friends"

I'm sure this has already been said, but I figured I'd say it anyway...

This is the internet. EVERYONE complains about EVERYTHING on the internet. It's not just limited to our cars. It's not just limited to cars in general. It's everything, and it's everywhere. In fact, it's hard to read stuff on the internet these days that is not complaining.

This was something that was common knowledge when I was in sales and also something that my teacher told me in Statistics class a few semesters ago:

Customers tend to be more vocal when they dislike something than when they like something. What I mean is... most people that buy a product and enjoy it usually go about their business. On the flip side, when someone buys a product and then has an issue with it... they feel entitled and compelled to tell everyone about their dislike.

EDIT: You want to see some whiny forums? Go check out the Diablo 3 forums (it's a computer game made by Blizzard). Those forums are a billion times more whiny than any other forum I've ever visited.

@mustang - your quote "You are so right! Like me you must be born in the "40"ties or before! Now the cars are so much better. I use to spent so much time in repair shop that the mécanik use to become my "friends" "

You must have been driving Fords back in the 40s & 50s .....

I'd say that we expect better of Toyota/Subaru. You wanna look at my bumper after 6k miles? I haven't even officially hit that mark yet and it looks pretty shit. Thin paint, and other various issues (small or large) that shouldn't exist aren't supposed to be acceptable. Consumer reports isn't too far off on their rating.

But then again maybe we all shouldn't have supported the first year model of this car. I said to myself that I'd wait but I made it to March of this year and couldn't hold off any longer... Oh well. I still love her.

My first car was a 1967 Dodge Station Wagon with Pushbutton Transmision. Someday all cars will have this feature. Chicks dig it.

Mine was a '64 Dodge Polara with the Pushbutton tranny. I loved that for some reason, it was so "space age".

I am right there with you. I won't go into details, but I am (hopefully) going to be getting behind the wheel of a '14 brz. No matter how long SoA makes the process take, I will be back behind the wheel of a brz.

I'm 22 and haven't had the longest car history but I feel that every car has its quarks. That's partly what I love about them. Gives them character in my book. Most new cars just feel so dull and boring.

Even with all the little complaints about the FRS and BRZ I still plan on getting one next year. Crickets? No big deal, low power? It has more than my current car it's not like I'm out to be the fastest anyways. Just to have a smile on my face when I go for a drive.

My first car was a 99' Mazda Protege. It was beat up had a bad clutch that slipped everywhere and old suspension. Interior was worn and had basic features such as crank windows, manual locks and A/C. The A/C never worked on any of my cars. I learned to drive in this car. Not the worst and not the best but good enough for sure.

My second car was a 86' FC3S. This was my first car purchase. I had to bring the clutch pedal back up with my foot in order to engage/disengage the clutch which turned out being a bad slave. It had electrical problems and its suspension was beyond worn. All easily repairable but this was before I had any hand in wrenching on anything. No A/C, non operational electrical bits in the interior. It taught me a lot about what to look for as far as buying a used car. But it ran great those problems aside. I sold it years ago and regret it, it was the perfect candidate for an LS swap.

My current car is a 91' Mazda Miata and is no where near perfect but at the same time I realize it's definitely not the worst. It has no power steering, no power locks, no power windows, no A/C, speakers lack any sort of bass, head unit is dying, it's uncomfortable as heck, small, impractical, makes all kinds of creeks and squeaks even with chassis mods, and it's slow on the freeways. I have to rev the crap out of it everywhere I go but I love it to death. Heel toe-ing in this car is amazingly easy and its just a blast to drive hard, even more so after mods. Having owned and driven it over the years has made me truly appreciate the simple things in a car. When I went to test drive an FRS just having an A/C in the car almost blew my mind, and in comparison it felt far more solid as a car. It reminded me of the miata if it where modern and way better looking lol (NC Miata excluded). I think people take current technologies for granted in general and should have cars that lack amenities if they think they have bad cars to see how good their car truly is. And compared to some of you guys I had it good. I look forward to owning a new car with "basic creature comforts" that will be more than adequate for me coming from what I'm used to. I honestly can't wait.

My first car was '69 Mustang with 100k+ mi, no a/c, and factory am radio. Leaked when it rained & broke down every 100 miles or so.

Yea, you're getting old. I hear most of what you say. But I never changed oil at 3000 miles. That's the oil companies and service shops goldmine. I always followed the manual on that one. I think the biggest thing is these kids today get a BRAND NEW CAR and have to 'build it'? "I'm going to put a blue pulley here and a cross brace there". "I'm going to spray paint the taillights red" (well, I did put some black tape on my Camaro taillights back in the day to make it look like a Z28). And headlight covers, and a stereo, wait, what? Yea, its still the same.
