I went back to college at 45 and I found that it took a minute to get my brain back in gear, but once I did I did quite well and time went by before I knew it. Community College and then on to the U of A. Secondary Ed/History.
I didn't work though; school was my job. I really admire you for taking on a full load and working, but you can definitely do it. As older students we have more of a sense of direction with less distractions. |

Got my BA in 2011 at age 43. I glad I did that. Lot of people encourage me to go back to school and to get MBA. I don't think I can't.... I have no time since I spend too much time on this forum

I went back for a Masters at 41. Was tough while working full-time, but worked out. Glad I did.

Oh man.. I still celebrate not having to go to school! LOL..
Graduated HS in 1971.. Did a couple years of college then needed To support my family.. Ended up working for IBM for many years and retired 5 years ago.. Thank goodness! All I did there was go to classes trying to keep up with newest technology.. Was so glad to bust out of there and never plan on going to class again! Maybe to relearn sex education... But that's it! I'm done! |

at ~33 went back to college to finish my associates. It's about impossible to get an interview with no degree whatsoever.
I could have taken all of the core-class exams my first day and aced them, but I had to endure 3 semesters of actually going to class, etc. |

It is a (recent) myth that you have to "focus only on school". I worked 20-30 hours a week when getting my undergrad degree, and worked two full-time jobs during the summer. When getting my Masters, I worked full-time in my field and worked around it. Got both without a single student loan, although I did have some scholarships for undergrad that covered all but about 10% of tuition, but not any other expenses. I even managed to have a bit of a life at the same time. So, my advice is work, live on nothing, attend a school you can afford on what you can make/get scholarships for, and go for it. It probably means you won't be driving a $25K car though.

I'm 46, and seriously considering going back to school.
I'm interested in Machine tool technology, eventually I want to own and run CNC machines and make parts for our cars, model cars, anything. |

some college courses require A LOT of out-of-class time to work on projects, do research, put together work, etc. My wife spends 20 hours a week in class... and another 40 hours actually doing the homework. She would not be able to have any sort of job and hold on to her grades.. or sanity. On the flip side, back when I was studying “business admin”,I didn’ thave to do jack because the subject matter was very easy (for me),half the tests seemed common sense to me and I rarely had to read the assignedreadings more than once to comprehend the material. This allowed me plenty of extra time to hold a job. So it really depends on what it is that you’re doing.
