Yes, it is legal. If you're upgrading FOR STX, realize that the stock brakes with good pads work very well. I believe (correct me if I'm wrong guys) but BIll and others mostly upgraded brake kits for the reduction in unsprung and rotating mass, went with lightweight kits.
With certain brake pads, I've had more grip than my RS3s can handle (mind you I was on 215s) so I can imagine there is enough brake grip in the stock setup plus good pads to set the ABS off whenever you when. Be mindful of weight with bigger brakes if youre doing this primarily for autocrossing

Brake rules for Street Touring classes:
14.6 BRAKES A. Non-standard brake rotors may be used provided they are of equal or larger dimensions (diameter and thickness) and made of ferrous material (e.g., iron). Thickness includes the individual plates of a vented rotor, as well as the overall dimension. The diameter for replacement rotors is measured at the minimum outside dimension. Aluminum rotor hats are allowed. Cars originally equipped with solid (non-vented) rotors may utilize vented rotors. Cross-drilled and/or slotted brake rotors may be fitted provided all such voids are within the disc area and comprise no more than 10% of that area. Brake calipers and mounting brackets may be replaced provided they bolt to the standard locations and the number of pistons is equal to or greater than standard. A functioning emergency brake of the same type, operation, and actuation as OE must be present. Drum brakes may be replaced with disc brakes of a diameter equal to or greater than the inside diameter of the standard drum. Such conversions must be bolted, not welded, to the axle/trailing arm/upright and must include an integral, redundant emergency brake. Changes to backing plates/dust shields/brake lines to accommodate these changes are permitted but may serve no other purpose. B. Brake lines may be substituted with alternate DOT-approved flexible brake lines. C. Air ducts may be fitted to the brakes provided that they extend in a forward direction only and that no changes are made in the body/ structure for their use. They may serve no other purpose. D. Original equipment ABS braking systems may be electrically disabled but may not be removed or altered in any other way. |

I think it's widely agreed upon that non-performance modifications which are relatively inexpensive in the name of longevity and reliability for MULTI PURPOSE (ST* was formed as a MULTI PURPOSE CLASS) are absolutely within scope. It may not be "necessary" for autocross purposes, but it is for other types of competition and uses which are within the target audience of the class. It's not like anyone is asking for aftermarket dry sump systems or to allow free reign on oiling system modification, Seems the decision makers are some of the only people who don't understand this, or don't care.

For all of you with headers. I obviously want power/toque when tuned but have to worry about sound (93.0db) here in san diego. any suggestions?

I just went to a full exhaust and had stock midpipe with a axleback delete. Stock catback is back on for now cause the noise was intense. I am thinking that I will be fine once I find a catback that is a good compromise between weight and noise. I want to hear the Tomei 60S with a full exhaust so don't get the wrong thing by mistake.

I think with the Perrin headerback you should be fine.
I have the P&L catted header, then catless header back to a resonated Perrin Catback and the sound is fine. Loud, but legal. According to the dB meter app on my iphone it hits the high 90s when you are standing right behind the car, but it drops off quick a few feet back. Now if you go with a single exit exhaust you probably won't be legal, they can be ridiculous. I know they make some with a silencer so that could be an option. I had a a catless turboback on my WRX that was really loud, but I had a bolt in silencer to put in if I was at a sound limited site. You can also fab up turn downs to clamp on too, I've seen that before. It also seems with these cars they actually get almost quieter when you get up in the powerband, but I have no quantitative evidence to support that though. |

It looks like my TT-prepared car will be seriously underhanded in Street Prepared (once we get placed in a category). I would sacrifice the cat delete but no way am I willing to sacrifice an oil cooler or upgraded radiator. womp womp

Locally, I doubt anyone will care if you have those mods. As long as your radiator isnt a real weight savings
