Automatic owners

This is for research for an essay I'm doing for class. Basically for anyone who bought/own an automatic BRZ/FR-S, I want to know the reason for buying vs owning a stick shift. No flaming please>

And of course if you are pleased/disappointed with your decision.

brz is my first car and I was about to get manual. However, I went with Auto because of a couple reasons.

1. Noone in my family knows how to drive manual, i've had instances where I needed someone to help me drive my car
2. Gas mileage is a bit better
3. More reasonable for me to get auto esp with all the traffic in the Northern Virginia area

I really was about to get manual. I guess my logical thinking won over automatic.

I live in the city and my BRZ is a daily driver. I would have still gone with a manual, but the automatic in this car is really top notch. I love paddles, this is my fourth car with them, and the shifts a fast and crisp.

daily driver. If I wanted a track car, i'd get a barebones fr-s MT, but for a daily driver, Limited is great, and i have 2 hours of stop and go traffic commute.

It fit my needs, which should be the only reason you buy anything tbh

Its a daily and the auto is a friggin nice auto. Its almost dual clutch nice. And when I want to feel lazy I actually can. Plus traffic in the morning can suck sometimes.

Past four cars were turbos with the last three being awd. My last daily was an Evo X MR. I test drove the FR-S MT and was disappointed. Test drove the auto and it drove exactly like my MR. Perfect for my daily commute and as sporty as my MR.

My wife doesn't drive a manual, and the auto gives me the option to use the paddles.

When I drink, my GF can drive my car home.
I was pleased with the AT, I only drove MT before (other than my SUV's).
I only drive it in MT mode, rev match system is awesome.
gear ratios are good for freeway driving with aftermarket exhaust, less drone, lower RPM.

I do miss certain things:
free rev to scare people/act stupid
launch the car to scare people/act stupid
drop the clutch to drift smoother to scare people/act stupid
scaring people and acting stupid

I really was about to get manual. I guess my logical thinking won over automatic.
Same exact reasons:

1. Other people drive my car
2. Gas mileage is a bit better
3. Easier to drive in traffic

Is it a compromise? Yes. Am I happy? Yes.. but doing some mods

- I don't track/race or any do competitive driving
- better gas mileage
- got a good deal on my AT

I know the pros of the MT but the AT suits my needs. I still have a ton of fun around the twisties in Sport+Manual mode. I don't feel like I'm missing out in the AT by the way I drive most of the time.
