I've seen it happen from bugeye (02-03) to blobeye (04-05), blobeye to hawkeye (06-07), hawkeye to hatch (08-present), and hatch STI to sedan STI.

The only thing in common with all these people bitching is that they all hold the 22B in high regard.
3-4 years from now, this will be the gold standard in Subaru styling.

The 22B is the highest regarded Subaru for a reason, heathen!

First of all....this.

Definitely the expected reaction.

I'm a little bit disappointed but also realistic. This isn't that bad at all. Front looks great but the rear and sides just don't seem to fit. Maybe a little spoiler would complete the look, or maybe I just need to see it in person.

Hopefully it will have:

6 speed
275 hp (at least)
good shocks
good brakes (maybe FHI 4 pots?)
good steering feel
decent gas mileage

and won't cost >$30k.

That would certainly help my opinion of the car.

- Andy

EDIT: also, real diffs.

Hope the engine is special, like 8,000 RPM 2.0l Turbo with LFA response, at least no turbo lag. Then can think about building a BRZ with that engine.

It... looks... so... tame.

On the upside, it means my 11 WRX will continue to be the best looking year for the WRX (black headlights).

What the world needs now is not a WRX meets Civic.

Why would Subaru add real diffs to WRX? It's not an STI.

I believe he is refering to a Torsen diff in the rear instead of the viscous rear diff which we normally get in the non STi trim. Don't think he expects a front LSD in the base car.

I agree with all of this, I think the 6MT is an absolute based on the leaked mule pictures... The knock out for me would be a rear Torsen as the rest would be easy enough to fix.

There has been no viscous rear LSD in the WRX since 2007.

There's a 6MT in a Legacy, that's cable-actuated and has a dreadful feel. I doubt Subaru will put a 6mt off an STI in a WRX unless they are axing the STI completely.

WRX has had open front and rear since 2008. VSLD rear died with the last gen.

Oh wow, I stand corrected. I thought all the USDM cars always had the rear VLSD. Apparently they were worse then I gave them credit for.

I would bet on the 6MT simply because the supposed 2L engine and the mules. Fuel economy targets are going to be much easier to hit with a 6th "freeway gear"... We will know for sure this month either way.
