According to the OP in the above thread, removal makes little difference

I could not detect any difference below 4,000 rpm's but above 4,000 there was a world of difference. Removing the tube was the first thing I did when I got my car.

Totally the way to go. I am saving up to do exactly that. Friends in my group have intake, exhaust, as well as intake and exhaust and they all sound better than stock.

I love the sound of the Boxer-fours. I don't think any of them sound NICE, but they all sound MEAN. Porsches sound especially mean. I installed the TRD intake a few thousand miles ago, which didn't seem all that different to me, but I'm glad to be rid of the sound tube on principle. I'm debating a TRD exhaust.

The only sound that I really miss is my little Fiat 1800cc DOHC with International Auto Parts header and Ansa exhaust. That was MUSIC. :-(

I think the FA-20 is the best sounding H-4 I've heard, especially >5K rpm. I installed the TRD CAI and Perrin catback on Day 1 though. The genius of the Perrin system is the modular design. If you think resonated isn't loud enough, get the unresonated pipe for ~$200 and that'll make you smile while saving another 5 lbs.

Do it. I have both the TRD exhaust and TRD intake and it sounds great, especially when you take it over 5k rpms. It just starts to sing at that point.

I'm obviously out on a limb here, but I love the sound of my BRZ. The sound tube works brilliantly IMO. If it was some piped sound over the stereo i'd have a 'principled' issue with it, but it isn't, it's just a way around the sound deadening all modern cars have.
It's the first vehicle (car or bike) that i'm wanting to keep stock soundwise i've ever had, and that includes my nameless'd STi, goodwin'd up miata, litre twin Aprilia with open pipe, kawasakis (even above 10000rpm..), 2 stroke ktms etc etc.

I love the noise it makes above 4500rpm - not harsh, just hard edged yet smooth, perfectly balanced yet raw and just like an engine should sound.

The fact all this happens with just me inside the cockpit enjoying it and plod outside blissfully ignorant? Complete bonus.
