PA State emissions and header

If I replace all original parts that have CATs with similar aftermarket CAT products will I still pass an emissions inspection?

This is the only thing holding me back from a full exhaust overhaul!!

The problem with trying to replace the stock cats with aftermarket is the positioning of it. The main cat on the header has a dual in-single out. You could potentially move the primary cat and secondary cat further back and extend the O2 sensors. If they do a visual inspection though you will most likely fail (not sure what your smog rules are). If it is just a sniffer test, having a good high flow cat with correctly positioned O2 sensors should get you by the basic test.

Sorry guys. I'm not really a newb. I've been creeping for a while and have about 7k on the car. I just don't know how to pass emissions w/o going stock. Would love to stay NA if at all possible. Love driving this car and would just like to maximize what we have!

PA emissions checks for odb2 codes. With a properly done exhaust combo it won't be an issue. Feel free to PM or call/email, we're only 90 minutes from you.

The front cat is for warmup primarily. If you have a tune you can remove the CEL, but that is for "off road use only". I don't think too many states do the sniffer test anymore, but primarily just check the odb2 status.

The PA and NY are both OBD2. So what Motoeast said for PA applies for NY as well. BUT I am assuming that when Moto-Mike said "properly" done, he implied the possible need for O2 sensor spacers... Not sure for I am a noob.

I acutally just emailed my FFL who does PA state inspections yesterday about this question.

Moto-Mike/East... do you guys do PA state inspections? I'm sometimes in Easton and my Taco needs one soon...

Great post. I live in ma and i am curious as well. I am currently running the nameless op/downpipe with high flow cat and oft tune. I really REALLY hope to get headers in the near future but dont know about emissions. I have heard that a catted header will rob me of power so plan to go catless and just use the cat on my downpipe. Do u think i will run into emissions issues? Will my car be louder without the header cat then with? Thanks in advance
