Tips on getting rid of minor scratches?

See a few of these around the car (not the best roads i'm driving around for my commute these days).

not familiar with cars and paints and all that jazz (not like i cared about what happened to my prizm much :3)... so a link to a guide or something would be appreciated.

Scratch X

if you feel it using your finger nail, can't do anything about it even you buff it out.
repaint or touch up paint

I feel your pain OP..

I discovered a light scratch above the rear wheels.. I don't know if those scratch pens will do any justice, but I recently bought one..

I wouldn't recommend scratch X. It might reduce the visibility of that big scratch, but will induce tons of microscratches into your paint, especially if applied incorrectly.

Maybe bring it to a detailer to see if they can do a spot fix for a small price. If it's not too deep, it shouldnt take more than a few minutes...or you can just learn to live with it until you can justify getting a proper full detail.

O RLY?
Not all car paint is equal.. have you even used scratchX on the FRS before? The paint on the FRS is very thin and soft. It very well might have been my technique, but my scratchX application ended up with a visit to my detailer the next day.

How much detailing experience do you assume the OP has, or whether or not he'll use the proper quality materials for the application? Does he have opticoat or other paint protection? Because scratch X will mess that up big time...

I don't know how much attention to detail you have either with your paint, but I'm extremely OCD about mine (to the point where I check it in the glare or w/ a flashlight ALL the time) and I was very disappointed with my experience with scratch X.

Here are some other experiences from various car/detailing forums from a quick google search:

"scratch x left micro marring all over my black lexus's clear coat..
only visible in the sun..
i tried again today.. using straight line application so i can see if it was the cause..
scratch x medium pressure .. meg's foam applicator.. meg's supreme shine microfiber.. all brand new.. also tried light pressure.. worked it until clear and almost gone
well guess what.. super fine micro marring on my clear coat in the pattern of straight lines..
sorely dissapointed.. brand new week old lexus.. thanks meguairs.. i think scratch x is too harsh for some of the new car paints.. "

"I followed the directions on the tube too the "T" including "let the product dry before removing excess with a separate 100 % cotton, terry cloth towel. (I used a microfiber polishing cloth). Well let me tell you, it was a son-of-a-gun to get off. I had to use a QD. I then applied Color X to the hood. Tonight I noticed that my whole darn hood is pretty well marred. Much worse than when I started. "

"I used Meguire's Scratch X2.0 Fine Scratch and Blemish Remover w/a microfiber cloth and now my paint looks cloudy where I used it !!! The scratch definitely deminished but the cloudiness is way more noticible."

"Be careful. I used ScratchX to remove water spots on a black car, applied it by hand. Little did I know, it left micro-marring behind."

"Scratch X is more aggressive and despite what the label says you probably will cause micro-marring when using Scratch X. In fact, micro-marring is real noticeable on black paint. However, Scratch X does work with multiple applications and works well on single stage paints. It takes some trial & error along with patience."

"I had a couple of scratches on the door of my black 2011 Jeep Wrangler. I used ScratchX 2.0 which did a fairly good job of removing the scratches. I washed my Jeep and used Quick Detailer just to get it extra clean and applied the ScratchX with a Meguiars yellow foam pad. However, under direct sun and halogen lights there is a noticeable haze filled with very fine and compacted swirls around the area I used the ScratchX.

I don't like the fact that I replaced the scratches with swirls. How do I go about removing the haze filled with swirls? It's driving me nuts!"

"I noticed a few scratches from the camping trip so I decided to use Maguiars scratch X on it. Seemed to work a little but it left some hazing around the area that I applied the product too."

OP, Just trying to give you a heads up to save you from possible headache...
But obviously it's your car, you can do whatever you want with it!

I have a rubbing compound I bought with some paint years ago. It has worked on 3 cars I tried fabulously, but when I used it on my moms black lexus it left hologram marks. Not sure why but I always do a test spot when trying on a different vehicle now. Good thing hers is a lease.

Chillax. I used it with no issues. Micro scratches can be fixed easily by applying less aggressive polish compound. I have ultimate polish
