H2000 Highest redliner for its time?

I was watching a review and an interviewer had stated the S2000 had the highest redline of its time (correct him if hes wrong). Somehow I don't believe this, can anyone confirm?

Certainly for a production car at the time it was. The 1st-gen revved to an insane 9000rpm; just a couple hundred shy of the Renesis rotary that was in the RX-8 several years later; and that I believe holds the record for a mainline production automobile (LFA would beat it on the fuel cutoff I believe, but barely qualifies as a production vehicle IMHO)

It's not about the redline, it's about the mean piston speed. It had the fastest until like 10 years ago IIRC.

RX-8: 9000 rpm
Ferrari 360: 8750 rpm (AP2 S2000's had lower redlines: 8k & 8.2k)
M BMW's are usually >8k
Suzuki Swift: 8000 rpm (for reference)

It's a rather irrelevant talking point other than as a characteristic of the car, it's not like I'd think differently of my FRS if it had a 6.5k redline but the same performance (like if it was higher displacement, higher torque), or less torque but an 8.5k redline.
