Anyone ever picked up a parcel from a port?

Well folks, don't know where to ask this question, so I'll ask it here. Just wondering if anyone here has experience ordering from overseas and getting the parcel shipped to a port. I did a shipping quote with japanparts.com, and saw there was an option to deliver to port (cheapest) or deliver to airport (more expensive). There is also a third option to have it delivered by a domestic shipper (most expensive) after it gets to the port.

I live near Portland, OR. I can have the item shipped to the port, but I've never picked up from a port before. Is a normal civilian even able to pick up from a port? Share you knowledge! Thanks in advance.

I think this probably should've gone in the regional forums or the off topic forum. But no, I have no experience with that.

Yeah, I didn't know whether to stick it in General or Off-Topic, but I was confident in asking here because I know many users on here order aero parts from japanparts. Just wondering if any of them did 'ship to port'

Ah, ok. One time I accidentally started a thread in the wrong forum. I was wondering if maybe you did that, because I didn't see any correlation between international shipping policies and cosmetic mods. But yeah, you're probably right about all the JDMness.

I always had it shipped to my house by airport because it would only take 7-10 days vs the 30-45 days by ship. What are you ordering?

TRD front lip and side skirts. I don't plan on mounting on my car until after winter, so I wouldn't mind the wait on the shipping. Plus I'd be saving $$$.

for once I can actually contribute to something haha as I have no idea how a lot of things work but I actually know a ton about logistics . What exactly do you need to know? feel free to pm me. but from your first post in general, yes if you have the proper paperwork you are allowed to pick up items from a port. the best thing you can do is call the carrier who will be delivering it to the port and make sure that you have all the proper documents in hand to get your package. This rings like 500x true if you are having stuff shipped in from overseas, security it tight, you could be you know picking up a bomb or drugs or whatever, so really triple check that you have everything you need before you get to the port. if you can get a copy of the bill of lading that would be ideal as well. you didnt provide any number so I cant tell you exactly but depending on how valuable your time is you may want to just avoid this situation all together. port logistics is just a shitshow it may take you hours of waiting to get your package. again especially if it is coming from japan. feel free to pm me haha I kind of got lost thinking about just how much I hate going to ports to pick up stuff, total chaos, but hey maybe its different in Oregon than in la or sf.
