The Tomei BR-Z driven by Toshiki Yoshioka is definitely down on power. Can't catch up to the v8 powered cars, especially in FD, where there are many high speed and long sweeping banks to be ran. The car has a hard time keeping its proximity, which makes up a good chunk of the judging criteria in FD.

Trust me, the chassis is plenty competitive. But a traditional 4cyl is out of the question for competitive drifting. The only competitive 4cyl in FD is Aasbo's 2AR. And that thing is barely a 2AR anymore.
Some of you are confused. We are not looking to be a supra. We are just trying to get easy hp. The 2J didn't only come in supras. They came in aristos too. But that is besides the point. I love supras too. Don't get me wrong. But this project was never intended to be a supra wannabe. I personally think this combo is better than a supra . (I bet that will piss some of you off) And for those who are not too familiar with drifting (which is where I come from) 50/50 is never the best setup with car balance. So having a rather heavy nose is actually ok with me. And going back to being competitive with a 4cyl.... It's tough because we lack the bottom end torque of the bigger engines. Drifting is basically a drag race for the first half of the battle. The rest is being able to keep that power on the ground. I hate to say this but there really is no replacement for displacement. Let's just put it this way.. Us 4cyl users must constantly drive at 120% only to keep up with V8s running at 80%. We basically stand no chance against their instantaneous torque. Why not a V8 then? Just because I love the brutal sound and raw power of the 2J. Last edited by Knshro13; 11-01-2013 at 01:57 AM. Reason: Just because |

A lot of us Toyota Heads are still used to being able to pull an engine from one car and dropping it in another like replacing a red lego brick with a blue one. The 4U-GSE is the only one of it's kind though, there is no stock high performance version to be had so an engine swap for the non-racer is a poor option. Strengthened internals and (slight) capacity increases are now available and combined with a decent forced induction kit a decent increase over stock power can be had. Perhaps a better way to make the car quicker is to look at weight reduction, aerodynamics, drivetrain and suspension upgrades; The TRD Griffon has Supercar performance using a more or less stock powerplant.

![]() He's absolutely right. Most of the 4 and 6 cylinder cars have gone with V8's (even VQ's have been replaced with V8's). There are still a few FI V6's and I6's but very few 4 bangers. And those are almost always falling behind in the trailing runs.

No one's impressed with the side view camera's on the matte gray FR-S? I think that's a great use of those fake side vents. Is it legal to drive around with no side mirrors and have those cameras instead in the US?

I thought those were interesting. However it would take a while to get used to not looking to the side for that view. Where would the display be for those?

Definitely a factor. It would get some getting used to. Over time it would become second nature I'm sure. I'd guess you could put the actual camera screens to the left and right of the steering wheel. The center dash? I don't know. Interesting though. One day they will be a reality in my opinion.

Unless it makes the car safer or a lot more fuel efficient I don't see it happening (unless cameras become cheaper than mirrors). The cost of production for something like this would probably exceed the cost of production unless on a high end vehicle.
