I know people that are like this: mechanically inclined but somewhat "sheltered" and a little clueless on other technologies. They are experts in their own fields so much so that they have decided to ignore others. I've ran into this a couple of times at classic car shows etc. I remember trying to explain to a former mopar/harley mechanic (who really knows his stuff, mechanically) the benefits of dual-injection, but he was adamant about having just one or the other. In the end, we just both agreed that it was a novel idea.

No idea.

I'm hearing they just shipped out whatever they had in stock because it had no "hold until X date" order on them. A bunch of other people got some as well.
